Lab ats | "Malcolm satisfied with _ Road Dept. amalgamation ¢ || Our private Banquet Room is now open "I am very happy with the way we have been able to reorganize since Regional Government' came into "being in January," Mayor Lawrence Malcolm told a large gathering of Ratepay- ers at the Blackstock Rec. Centre last week. A question had been di- rected at Mr. Malcolm by the ratepayers president, Mr. Roland Coy stating that everyone knew what was bad about the regional sy- stem, but maybe he could relate what was good about it. As an indication of the coming years, Mr. Malcolm said, he was extremely happy with two depart- ments in particular. "The roads department has adapted to the change perfectly, and it is obvious that things are going to run much more smoothly" he said. Mr. Frank Godley told the Mayor that in the past two or three years, the work done by the Port Perry crew with snow removal was 100 percent, but now with the Townships trucks all working together he would give them 125 per- cent. "They are doing a tremendous job," he said. We are now able to get larger jobs done much more quickly, the Mayor told the, audience; because we can pool all our trucks to one location if necessary instead. of relying one or two trucks to do the job. " I'm sure it will be of benefit to every- one' he said. In regards to the cen- tralization of the Municipal Offices, Mr. Malcolm. said that it was the right move. "Everyone is happy, they know what they have to do and they go about getting their jobs done." he said. In the past there has been a certain amount of bad feeling between Port Perry and Reach Twp. in regards to the water and sewage. Mr. Malcolm said that before Regionalization Port Perry took its water out of Reach at one end and dumped its sewage into Reach at the other end. "Now we are just one big happy family' he said. He also reported that the water pumps had been turned off that evening (Thursday) for the instal- lation of a "Brand new" pump.
