BRUTON TROPHY: Foster, skip; June Bantams win Stouffville tourney Beare Motors Bantams won the Championship Tro phy in the Stouffville Ban- tam Tournament April 12 by defeating Stouffville, Bow- manville and finally Beaverton. In the first game Port Perry were to have met Penetang in the first game but Penetang had to cancel out of the tourney because of being in OMHA play- downs. This meant Port played Stouffville "B" instead and romped to a 10 - 0 win. Robt. Baird. Larry Elson and Colin Wackett scored 2 goals each and singles went to Stu Coch- rane, Ken Baird. Steve Hawes and Robt. Evans. Doug Larmer was in goal for Port and handled the Stouffville team easily for the shut out. The next game was much (L to R) Donna Fairman, vice-skip; Joyce Howson Anderson, second; Marion Martin, lead. closer and more exciting as Port Perry handed the big- ger Bowmanville team a 4 - 1 defeat on the last goal into a empty net. In this game, our penalty killer's Wackett and Company had to really work. because of some dub- ious work of the referee's, we played short handed for 8 minutes and held Bow- manville from scoring. Larry Elson scored the winning goal in this game and also the last goal into the empty net. Mike Mec- Quade got Port's first goal and Stu Cochrane the 3rd goal. This was the team we had to beat as everyone favored Bowmanville to win the tournament. Gradu- ally Port Perry took charge of the game and went on to win 5 - 1. Charley Dur- ward played well in this game and the previous game and contributed much toward the team's success. Larry Elson was the big man of this game and of the day he scored 2 against Beaverton and had six goals for the day. Phil Cochrane got 2 goals against Bea- verton and Robt. Evan presenting trophy to Marie scored the single goal. "Baby Bull'" (Robt. Baird) had 2 assists. Robert got his nick name from the team for great strength for his size in the corners and around the net. In summing up the sea- son. just two words, "Tremendously Succes- ful." Won Lakeshore Lea- gue, won Port Perry Minor Hockey Bantam Tourna- ment. Won Consolation Tro- phy in Toyota Tournament at Agincourt. Won Stouff- ville Bantam Championship "trophy.
