After months of concern and worry over the question of the future of our local High School, area residents were delighted to learn of the decision this past week of our Board of Education to keep the Cartwright High School open. Appreciation is extended to the Board that the wishes of the local residents were - considered in this major decision. Mrs. Earl Bradburn attended the funeral of her uncle, the late Mr. Melville Lathangue from Mackey Funeral Chapel, Lindsay with interment - at Bally- duff Cemetery. Instead of their regular meetings, the Anglican ladies attended the Deanery _ Meeting at St. Paul's Angli- can Church in Uxbridge. Mrs. Ruth Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Gibson were Sunday evening dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Elliott, Dunsford. 'On Thursday Doug Grove helped Steve Bryans cele- brate his tenth birthday. Sunday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ferguson and hoys were Mr. and Mrs. George Dunbar and family, Scarborough. During the week Mr. and Mrs. Bob Robertson, Roger, Paul and Scott moved from their farm home east of Blackstock to a new farm north of Wodville. Recently Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bonetta moved from their Purple Hill farm to a new farm near Roseneath. Much hap- piness in their locations is wished for both of these couples. Friday evening callers of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Bryans and family were Mr. and Mrs. Allen Thompson and Brent of Maple Grove. Volunteer firefighters from Uxbridge and the Port Perry fire department were called out to quench the blaze which broke out at 3:37 am. and was out by 8:30. am. Walter Bryant, Uxbridge volunteer firefighter, said today the exact cause is un- known but said it was prob- ably cigarettes. The residents in the two storeys of apartments above the pool hall escaped on their own before firefighters arrived. Several family pets, however, were lost. Three of the apartments were completely .gutted, said Mr. Bryant. "It was pretty fortunate the people got out. It was very close," said Mr. Bryant. Hydro and gas has been shut off to many of the seven apartment units in- volved in the fire.
