Durham's finance com- missioner was authorized by council last week to approach the Ontario Muni- cipal Board (OMB) with an interim debenture quota request of more than $24 million. This interim quota is com- . prised of about $9.9 million for the region; and about $14.5 million for five of the region's eight member municipalities. Under the Durham Act, the region must issue all debentures for local munici- palities. Under the Durham Act. the region must issue all debentures for local municipalities. the interim quota presen- ted to council last week, said Cou. George Ashe Pickering, is a figure which is fluctuating downwards as both the various area mun- icipalties and the region make cuts in their 1974 capital budget proposals. Debentures totalling $24,424,000 were discussed briefly by the council as the committee's recommenda- tion was passed. This amount, the finance committee chairman said, would be the maximum amount of funding which would be required for 1974 debenturing. The municipalities of ~Oshawa and Whitby led the field in the debenture quo- tas to be requested on be- half of them with about $9.6 million and $1.4 million res- pectively. Of the total of $24,424,000 suggested, it was anticipa- ted that $14,997.000 would be debentures to be retired from future tax dollars paid to either the municipalities or the region; while about $9,427,000 would be paid by CLUB ANNRENE (UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT) Dancing user charges, such as water bills, for example. The municipalites which did not request any deben- "turing for 1974, according to the finance committee re- port were: Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge. HH. &.
