PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, May 29th, 1974 --- 5 OPP appreciates media assistance, reminds cyclists about their duties On April 29, the Ontario Provincial 'Police asked for help to locate witnesses to assist in their investigation of a serious criminal offence. In particular, we wanted to speak with persons who had travelled between Peterbo- rough and Toronto by bus on December 6, 1973. As a result of published and broadcasts appeals. a witness has res- ponded with information vital to our investigation. Without the co-operation of the media we could never have reached this important witness. On behalf of all members of the Ontario Provincial Police, 1 should like to express our appreciation to you for your assistance on this occasion. H. II. Graham Commissioner To the Editor: Commissioner H. H. Gra- ham reminds the cyclist that he is operating a vehicle and he has to conform to the same 'rules of the road' as the car driver. As with a car, your bicycle must be in good working order and you must know your bicycle safety rules. So. parents before your voungsters get their bikes out of the basement, check them over and satisfy your sell that they're properly equipped and in good condi- tion. Make sure that the child- ren know their safety rules perhaps you could even give them a cyeling test. If you are not sure of the rules, vour local OPP Detachment will be only too pleased to help vou. And cyclists, know how your bike works remem- ber it needs regular main- tenance, the same as a car AL this time of year, motorists should be particularly watchful for the mexperienced.eyelist. Young children especially pre- schoolers, can be totally unpredictable -- keep an eye out for them, and always expect the unexpected. Fred R.
