Keaders' opinions: No charge for service Dear Sir: * There have been various inquiries directed to the Uxbridge Pool management concerning the Central Seven A.M.R. swim and craft program at the pool last summer, which is mentioned in the 'Flowers of Hope' campaign literature given out last week. Central Seven's letter has lead to the erroncous belief that the pool management charged the Association for Wins nomination by acclamation Allan Beckett, 50, an econ- omist now turned politician, was last week named Liberal candidate in Northumber- land-Durham for the July 8 federal election. Mr. Beckett, who took up permanent residence in' Hamilton Township, about five miles north of Port Hope a couple of weeks ago, won the candidacy by acclama- tion. For the past 14 years he has operated an economist consultant firm in Toronto and he told the audience of more than 500 who turned out for the nominating conven- tion that he had decided to run "two weeks and four days ago." No stand on Airport Durham Region is yet to decide on its stand on the Pickering Airport. Last Wed- nesday a motion to oppose the establishment of the airport was postponed to the next meeting June 12 by its mover Coun. Anderson. Council had just emerged from a sudden closed meeting around 6:45 p.m. Coun. Anderson proposed the postponement to avoid a long debate at that late hour. The motion is now in the 'unfinsihed business' portion of the next meeting. Unfin- ished business, is generally discussed at the end of the meeting. Coun. Anderson made it clear that he would attempt to bring up the motion much earlier. INVEST NOW! Hvidsten, Editor, Port Perry Star, Port Perry, Ontario. Dear Sir: Briefly 1 would like to express my thoughts on the controversial question the town Town Hall or the White' Elephant. I understand the Historical Society and others are in favor of investing thousands of dollars into this old build- ing to make a summer theatre or cultural centre and would also be a tourist attraction that would attract people from a hundred mile radius of Port Perry. Why invest thousands of dollars in an old building that is not needed in this town. As we all know there is an auditorium in each of the schools and many halls throughout the town. It has been mentioned that woélheed a new arena. This makes much more sense as it would accommodate the young people in this town and surrounding communi- ties, plus several shows throughout the year. I think the remarks of Mr. Bill Brock and Mr. Mina are a classical example of wishful thinking.
