Mrs. Roy Taylor is pro- gressing favourably follow- ing her surgery in Scarbo- rough Centennial Hospital." Recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Hector Shortridge and Bill were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Morison, Orono. Beare and his Merry- makers. Mr. and Mrs. Sandy Daw- son of Point-au-Baril were Monday overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Neil Bailey and family. A welcome is extended to Miss Gertrude Henry who is returning 'home' to Black- stock after quite a number of years in Toronto. She is moving into the apartment in Mr. and Mrs. Jim Marlow's home. Welcome home, Ger- tie. Mr. and Mrs. E.R. Taylor, Enniskillen were Friday evening dinner guests of Mr. ~and Mrs. Wilbur Tomns. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lar- mer were Sunday evening dinner guess of Mr. and Mrs. Eber Snowden, Courtice. Miss Cathy Lormer, Toronto was a recent guest of Miss Doreen VanCamp. On Thursday evening Miss Susan Sheen entertained a number of her language students for supper. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Kelly visited Miss Nancy Harness in Port Hope on Thursday evening. Mrs. Stanford Van- Camp, Miss Doreen, Van- Camp and Mr. Richard VanCamp attended the wed- ding of their niece and cousin Miss Joan Woodward to Mr. Lindsay Ross in Leaside United Church on Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Richard VanCamp was unable to attend as she was involved in the Cubaree here. Miss Rhonda Bryant of Ashburn was a weekend guest of her brother, Mr. and Mrs. George Bryant, Dwayne and Julie. Cubaree 1st Greenbank Wins the Rabb Trophy An interesting and happy day was spent at the Black- stock Fair Grounds on Satur- day. June 8 when the 5th Pine Ridge Cubaree was held by the Pine Ridge Scouters Club. One hundred and seventy-two boys and leaders registered for a day of fun. They were from nine Cub Packs - Beaverton, Can- nington, Greenbank; 1st and 2nd Scugog, Port Perry B and C and Cartwright A and B. A group of Boy Scouts and older cubs had spent the night on the grounds helping to prepare for the event. The day began under beautifuly sunny skies with a flag parade and a massed Grand Howl. After the flag break, Rev. V. Parsons led in prayer and Mayor L. Mal- colm conducted the official opening. He left one message with the boys - to enjoy the present. Chairman of the Cubaree, Mary Parliament and Chairman of the Scou- ters Club, Walter Wells spoke welcoming everyone. The three guest judges from Oshawa were kept busy with the individual pack Grand Howls and Inspections. Scouter Welts introduced the Young Olym- pians of Canada Programme and well over 100 boys began it. The afternoon was spent with fun at the circus games and side shows put on by each 'pack. Blackstock Women's Institute The Blackstock Women's Institute held their meeting in the Community Hall in the evening of June 5th. Mrs. Shortridge presided, opening the meeting with the Ode followed by the Collect in unison. The minutes and corres- pondence was read by the secretary Mrs. Stanford A notice from the Depart- ment of Agriculture stated that Miss Mary Tompkins will replace Mrs. Karen Fitzsimmons as Home Economist in September. It was moved and carried that the usual donation of $25.00 be given to the Agricultural Society. The usual request from the Werry clan to assist at their annual picnic on July 20th was agreed to. Owing to the financial success of the Historical Society Musical held re- cently, it was decided to can- cel the flea market for 1974. It was decided to hold the draw at the next Fair Board dance on June 22. The exhibit for the Black- stock Fair - A Baby Shower - was arranged. The conven- ors are to be in charge of the exhibit.
