John Duff of Toronto conducted the Morning Ser- vice on Sunday and took his text from St. Luke 11, "*Both- ering God or Keeping the faith." The choir sang 'a shelter in the time of storm." The Induction Service for the Rev. Stuart McEntyre will be held in Burn's Church tonight June 20 at 8 p.m. Several from this area atten- ded the Odd Fellows Service at Groveside Cemetry on Sunday afternoon. On Friday night of last week. there was a sale at the Community Centre consist- ing of baking, plants, hand- work and white elephant. It was a very successful eve- ning, realizing approxim- ately $200.00 which will be used to repair the centre. We are sorry to report Mrs. A. Fisher's father, Mr. Harold Kerry, has broken his hip and is now a patient in Oshawa Hospital. We wish for him a speedy recovery. The motion which had been pending for several weeks, was brought forward by Coun. Anderson of Picker- ing. Opposing the motion Coun. Potticary quoted from a brief on the airport which said $3 billion dollars would flow into the area and 200,000 new jobs would be created.' Coun. Rickard felt the debate should not be entirely economic. "You will gradu--~ ally destroy yourself if you think only in terms of the money generated" he said, "You've got to consider the human side too." He felt there ought to be a sincere and in-depth study to ¢o into the matter. Coun. Matheson pointed out that Air Canada feels an airport is nol necessary now. "1 believe the need to have an aiport has been estab- lished. The opportunities in this country are priceless. Our country is a magnet to the people of the world and we need a new airport and resultant services to main- tain and increase our level of services." he added. Coun. Ken Lyall asked councillors to consider the lifestyles of people in the region before backing an airport. "Don't look at it with; dollar signs for eyeballs." he * pleaded, adding that **3 bil- lion and 200,000 jobs don't equate with the trouble we'll have from the new airport." He said a new airport would be a nuisance. Council finally agdinst the motion. voted Busy season for Mothers' Auxiliary "By June Harris The Meeting of the Mot- her's Auxilliary of the 1st Scugog Cub and Scouts for the month of June was held on Monday evening, June 10th, at the Manchester Church. Those present were Phyllis Allen, Barbara Gar- side, June Harris, Elva Kerry. Alison Leach, Dini Page and Joan Rudkin. The great success of the Rummage and Bake Sale discussed and the Mother's would like to thank Mrs. Ernie Edgar and Mrs. Margaret Warren for their great assistance at this function. The Cuboree held in Black- stock on June 8th was one of the most rewarding days the writer has encountered. About 150 boys participa- ted and anybody who was present watching the eager- . ness of the boys must have felt reassured that all the work involved planning and carrving out the various duties during the year, was well worthwhile. The weather was beautiful and everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves. There will be a paper drive on Saturday, June 22nd and JOHN DEERE UTICA FARM EQUIPMENT LTD. Future activities com- mencing in the Fall were dis- cussed and it is hoped that we will be able to have afall Fruit and Vegetable Festi- val, a Bake and Novelty Sale and a Corn Roast. The Group Committee have requested also that anybody who shops at the stores that reimburse on tapes, perhaps they might like to donate these tapes to the boys in order that various types of equipment may be purchased necessary to the Cub Pack. Commencing in the Fall it has been decided that monthly meeting will be held in the afternoons and evenings on alternate months to enable all Mothers to participate. If any lady is interested in participating in the Auxillary to help. the boys, whether or not they are a Mother of a Cub, or Scout they are most welcome. The boys were taken on the African Safari last Saturday and all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The Cubs will resume in September and we hope to see everybody then. Happy Summer everyone.
