This event was naturally part of the ceremonies when the Nestleton Community Centre was opened Wednesday last week. Here it is recorded by the Star photographer and by Jean Bolan On Wednesday evening June the 12th a dream be- came a reality. The desire of each and every member of this community of Nestleton for som eyears has been full- filled. ~The Nestleton Com- munity Centre has been offi- cially opened. Floral tributes adorned the hall, by courtesy of many of our local businessmen and women. Court Lady Snowbird hung the new drapes for the occasion, the committee members had stained the cupboards that morning, and they look quite smart. So 'very many people are res- ponsible for the overall effect of this beautiful Centre that it would take pages to list their names and the chores they were responsible for. I am quite certain that they as I, felt ten feet tall as his Worship Mayor Lawrence Malcolm thanked all responsible. The music provided by the band of so very young children under the guidance of Mrs. H. Kiezebrihk and Mr. Butler was enjoyed by all. I am quite certain that a detailed description of the evening shall be written by our pub- lisher, Mr. Hvidsten as he was among the guests. Cof- fee and donuts were avail- able to all. The "Cards and Kids"' club members were hosted by a dear friend and neighbour, Mrs. Hettie Fernly of Caesa- rea. Two weeks ago Mrs. Fernly had the misfortune to catch her hand in the rotat- ing blade of her power mower and the damage was naturally quite extensive, although she has limited use of her right hand at present. In spite of this dreadful discomfort she insisted that she host our final meeting of the season to show her grati- tude to they that assisted her in her hour of need. Unknown to the ladies, the evening before the euchre game, Mrs. Fernly made a potato salad, prepared a ham and as if that was not enough bless her, she made bread and served home made chili sauce and beets. She even insisted that she wait upon us, which of course we soon discouraged. All the while she sat and worried that as our hostess it was her duty to wait upon us and felt indeb- ted to all that had helped her. Our reply to that was, "Mrs. Hettie Fernly if this world of ours had more people such as you in it life would be far more pleasant, for you are indeed one of the "real" people that one is privi- leged to meet." To formally close the season the member of the club have planned a dinner at the Rib Room in the Hotel Genosha in Oshawa' next Tuesday. "As many of us are aware this month is dedicated to our Senior Citizens . . .What are we going to do about it?? There are countless chores that we could do to assist in many ways . . for example . . clean windows, paint mail boxes, take them out for a drive or for dinner etc. Keep in mind our turn is coming and perhaps we too shall discover that stairs are steeper, a .-walk longer, cleaning a small window becomes a gigantic chore and shopping alone simply 2. J out of the question. They all have their pride but I am certain that a little help would be appreciated so think about it won't you? Wishes for a rapid and complete recovery are ex- tended to the following . . Mr. Jim Hollaway, father of Mr. H. Rutherford of Caesarea, Mrs. John Sovey of Black- stock, Mr. G. Heaslip of Nestleton and Mrs. H. Fernly of Caesarea. Our prayers are offered on their behalf. The dance held by the Nestleton Area Recreation Centre on Saturday evening June the 8th was by all reports quite successful. Music provided by G.B. and the Merri-makers as per usual kept everyone on their feet. Salads, cold cuts ete. were on the menu and thoroughly enjoyed by all. The Committee for the Centre were responsible for the evening that was completely enjoyed by all present. A band of young musicians from the Cartwright Public School entertained the well over 100 persons attending the official opening of the new Nestleton Recreation Centre. Considering the band was formed less than one year ago the young participants PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, June 19th, 1974 -- 2:3 from left to right it starts with the architect Ron Wagner presenting the key to the contractor Bob Bero. . .then he is presenting the same key to the chairman of the building committee, Don Frew . . .and from here it went to the caretaker, Mrs. - Jean Williams. where it remains. Nestleton, Caesarea and area news While driving home from Lindsay on Thursday I counted fourteen large green bags of garbage carelessly thrown on the roadside by people that without a doubt are simply too darn lazy to take it to their own homes and have it collected with their weekly garbage. If this tvpe of person feels com- pelled to toss refuse and smelly garbage out of their cars, why then do they not throw it in their own com- munity and leave our road- sides country fresh and clean as we ourselves keep them. I think those responsible have a colossal nerve and can well imagine the type of house- keepers they are. The final meeting for the season for Court Lady Snow- bird, (Canadian Foresters) was hosted by Mrs. Neil Fe€, in her home. The meeting opened according to ritual with the President Jean Bolan presiding. The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Sr. Marg Lee. certainly gave a respectable interpretation of the program presented. The tutors in charge, Mrs. H. Kiezebrink and Mr. Butler certainly share consider- ably in the remarkable success. yr The financial report was submitted by Sr. Dorothy L.ee. Committee reports were submitted by different members. Plans for the wedding on Saturday that we have been requested to cater to were finalized. The annual bake sale has been indefin- itely postponed due to the fact that a wedding and bake sale would without a doubt be a little much for one day. however the patio draw shall take place as scheduled at Gordon's Market in Caesa- rea on Saturday the 15th. When you read this some lucky ticket holder shall own a lovely patio set. Plans for the final meeting of Kings- way District Council were made. This shall be held at Jean Bolan's on Wednesday, June the 19th. Following the meeting a weiner roast shall be held, which of course shall be hosted by Court Lady Snow- bird. I wish to take this opor- tunity to thank all of you that have so kindly assisted Lady Snowbird during the past ) A fg FAL AEN ORES A RETR SR PR Ha SANS dw EAR ER season. We are all extreme- ly grateful to each of you. A safe and pleasant jour- ney is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Orval Tripp, parents of Mr. J. Doyle of Nestleton, who are at present motoring west to visit with Mr. and Mrs. E. LeMair and family in Vancouver. Mr. and Mrs. F. Brass of Thornhill are accompanying the Tripps. Mrs. Doyle's mother, Mrs. Sophie Blyth is also on her way to Winnipeg for a well earned vacation. We trust that she also has a safe and most pleasant trip. Recently we received in the mail a report from the Cartwright Liaison Com- mittee in reference to the April 22nd meeting of the Durham Board of Education. This meeting concerned the future of the Blackstock High School. We were asked if we are in favour of an addition to the present school or a new one in the north end of ward four. Many people have spent much needed time on this matter on behalf of the community so please phone or mail your opinion at your earliest convenience won't you? Contact Glenn Larmer or Gord Cooledge, Shirley Grieve or Scottie Barton. It would certainly be apprecia- ted by these committee members.
