News from Greenbank The heavy rains of May have paid off with a brilliant mid June. The greenery is really dazzling this year and every flowering shrub or tree has been as obliging as possible. Greenbank is a splendid vantage point from which to observe the weather. makes it possible to watch a storm approach from miles away which results in some remarkable effects. Great thunder clouds slowly march from the distant west while overhead it is pure ozure. There is always plenty of time to take in the wash. Nature can be most thought- ful. Let us hope she is equally kind on June 26 -when the Women's Institute entertain their friends at a Garden Party at Belleview - Farm. We have put in our request for a cloudless. wind- less afternoon. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Graham on Sunday were Madame Michel, St. Denis of London and New York and Mrs. Donald Mac Sween of Montreal. Mr. and Mrs. Art Couves spent the weekend with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Dobson at Magnetawa, On Saturday they all motored on to New Liskeard where they atten- ded the Sheep Field Day at: the Agricultural College. Barbequed lamb was the feature of a buffet served in the College Hall. Some Greenbank boys attended a weekend camp at The breath of sky Camp Sumac for the Sixers Pow-Wow. The boys, Tre- var Till, Peter Stone, Micahel Real, Todd Men- zies, Shawn O'Donnell and Darryl Baker were rained out on Saturday but were able to finish the week end in the Council Hall. The Greenbank Father and Son Banquet was held at the United Church with both Cubs and Scouts An O.P.P. officer was present to show some films. Mr. Stanley McMillan of Hamilton is spending the week with Mr. and mrs. Howard McMillan. On Sunday a re-union was held at Greenbank School of ex-students, teachers and parents. It was also an opportunity to say farewell to the principal, Mr. Rowe, who is leaving for a part in Whitby. Mr. Ken Sturman acted as M.C. Mr. Willis Stone spoke on behalf of the parents, Mrs. Barbara Phair for the teachers and Lynn Couperthwaite and Willie Beaton for the students. Lynn and Willie also presen- ted Mr. Rowe with some parting gifts. Sunday being Father's Day there was an influx of family visitors to honour Father on this special occa- sion and there was a special treat on Sunday, too. when George Beare and his musi- cal group entertained the congregation. George on his guitar, Marie Cookman at the piano, Barbara Timms on her piano Accordion and Jamie Cardner on the drums accompanied George Timms as he sang songs quite new to° us. The Sunday School Picnic will be held this Saturday at« Greenbank Park at 3 p.m. with supper in the basement al 5 p.m.everyone is wel come. There will be swim- ming at Uxpool from 6 to 9. Anyone who can provide transportation will be very much appreciated. At 8 p.m. on Wednesday of this week a recital will be presented by the pupils of Joan Lee. The sympathy of the community is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Armour Mec- Millan on the passing of Mrs. Lloyd Ashenburst at Cardi- nal. Mr. and Mrs. Billy Hill and Ken had supper with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hill on Sunday. Mrs. Annie Guy spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Guy of Lindsay. Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton Sark and family are busy preparing for a housewarm- ing they hope to hold early in July. The bus trip last Tuesday, sponsored by the W.1. Ladies to Square I at Mississauga and one to the McMichael Art Gallery at Kleinberg made a most enjoyable day. Mrs. Mona Mero, Mrs. Evelyn Tait and Mrs. Ross Shier attended the annual Banquet of the Durham Region School Board. The occasion was to honour retired teachérs and those r Account. keep your promise. Susan Schwann and Arvella Phoenix were guests at dinner and presentation honouring Miss Jean Gray who is retiring as Nursing director af the Community Memorial Hospital. Miss Grav has been with the hospital almost since its inception. There was sixty five in attendance. On Sunday a number from our congregation journeyed to Wick for the Decoration Services and to the Vromm- ton Anniversary. Vising with the Mounts on the weekend were Mr. and Mrs. M. McNamara, a grandson, Warren, and friend. We regret to hear that Kenton Baird is in the Community Memorial Hospital. He has had his appendix removed and we hope to have him home shortly.
