Before doing so I want to make it clear that I am not being critical of Mr. Chand- wani the Star reporter, for in my opinion he is doing an: excellent job. I personally feel that the statement in question was inadvertantly taken out of context and at first glance would not appear: to cause any controversy as to my position on the matter. However, I have been ques- tioned about the statement by several members of or- ganiziations which I repre- sent on the arena issue. While it is true that I .initially become involved in a study of the need of better and additional ice facilities as a member of the Port Perry Minor Hockey Associative, I now represent seven other organizations. not all of whom support the proposal because of their interest in hockey. I therefore feel obligated to state the aims and objec- tives of the committee, in order to clear up any misun- derstanding. Our first con- cern is to try and per- suade our civic leaders to build a twin pad arena which would provide adequate ice facilities for all, now and in the forseeable future, and secondly to encourage our' civic leaaers to build this arena on a parcel of land, large enough to accommo- date a variety of recreat- ional and leisure time facil- ities for all the people of our growing community. We fully realize the magni- tude of our proposal and we feel that the arena should come first in lieu of the deteriated condition of the present structure. Other facilities could be added to the complex as needs arise and funds become available. I would further like to add that any individual or pri- vate group wishing tg sup- port our proposal can do so by simply writing in to Build An Arena, P.O. Box 678, Port Perry, Ontario. Thank You.
