Today we face serious inflation, housing shortages, abuses of unemployment in- surance and runaway growth of govern- ment. Cost of living has gone out of control and there is a crushing burden of personal taxation on our people. Canada needs a new look at Ottawa. Here in Ontario Riding we have the op- portunity to do something about it by electing Joyce Bowerman to a place in the Conservative government of Bob Stanfield. About 90 supervisors and manage. ment personnel will not be" eligible for overtime but will be granted a week's additio- nal vacation if they put in more than a reasonable amount of overtime work. The vacation policy was. approved by council with little comment, but the over- time policy created a heated debate about who should geig overtime and who should not. } Council found itself tied up in defining supervisors, department heads and departments, resulting in a great deal of confusion. Coun. Des Newman attempted to change the recommendation so that sup- ervisors would not get anyg compenstion for overtime. His attempt failing, Coun. Newman proposed an amendment, which was approved by council, des- cribing five departments in the regional government. Several hours later Coun. ment be rescinded as it violated regional bylaws which described only four departments. this created further confu- sion which ultimtely re- sulted in Council deciding that some supervisors will be apid time and half for over- time while the rest (about 00) will not get any overtime pay but will be eligible for a week's extra vacation at the g( discretion of their departs™ ment heads.
