2 6 -PORT PERRY STAR --Wednesday, June 26th, 1974 ln tr wen NLA ¥ \ Ia Sea Sar Sh Alek -- PR Nestleton, by Jean Bolan On behalf of the entire community I wish to convey warm congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Heaslip of Nestleton upon the event of their Golden Wedding anni- versary. May they enjoy good health, peace and hap- piness in the years to come. (which we sincerely pray are imany). To this may I add that we trust that Bruce and Olive enjoy just a minute portion of the goodness that they have so freely be- stowed on all they have met through the years. The Nestleton Community Centre was the setting for an afternoon of friendly remini- seing, concratulations ang presentation of gifts as countless friends, relatives and neighbours payed tribut to this popular couple. It is most definitely people such as the Bruce Heaslips that attribute much to pleasures of rural living. The final meeting of the season was held in my home on Wednesday evening for Kingsway District Council, (Canadian Foresters). Approximately twenty four members of different Courts ~were in attendance. Need- less to say it was not the preferred type of evening for the planned weiner roast, so New Deadlines Display Advertising: 3 P.M. - MONDAY Week of Publication Classified Advertising: (Accounts sports of reports, meetings, etc.) 6 P.M. - MONDAY Week of Publication we enjoyed a potluck supper in licu of the weiner roast, which incidentally was absolutely delicious. Many items of interest were on the agenda for this particular meeting. among which were the plans to raise funds for yet another project. In April the Foresters raised seven thousand dol- lars for Cancer research and an addition to the new wing at the Cataraqui Lodge for Cancer in Kingston Ontario. The new project is to date, assisting with the new addit- ion for the Princess Marga- ret Cancer Hospital in Toronto, or perhaps equip- ment they may require. Inquiry is being done at this point as to which would be the most necessary help that the Foresters may offer. Minutes of the previous meeting were read by Sr. Emma Balson of Oshawa. The Western Ontario Provin- cial Assembly shall be held in Kitchener this fall. The next E.0.P.A. is to be held in the 401 Hotel - Motel in Peterborough in the early spring. The Henderson award for attendance at the meetings was won by Court Venture for 1973. Court Lady Snowbird placed second. Following the meeting fare- wells were said until Septem- ber when we shall meet once more in Bowmanville. The members of the "Cards and Kids" club enjoyed a smorgasboard in the Rib Room of the Genosha Hotel in Oshawa on Tuesday of last week. By all reports the girls had a simply won- derful time. . .they worried about the added calories the following day, I do not blame them a bit. The trophy for the most loan hands for the season was won by Mrs. Doug Day of Caesarea. Con- gratulations Sandy. A sincere get well wish is conveyed to Mrs. Brown Caesarea who, due to an injury with a power mower had developed lock-jaw and is at present a patient in Toronto in intensive care. Our prayers are offered up on her behalf. Congratulations are exten- ded to the newly weds, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Clark, (nee Lynn Cook) daughter of Bob and Carol Cook of Caesarea. This young couple were joined. in wedlock by Rever- rend Victor Parsons in the United Church, Blackstock, on June the fifteenth. May their life as man and wife be a lasting, happy one. The reception was held in the Nestleton Community Cen- tre. The members of Court Lady Snowbird served as well as prepared dinner, and wish to say thank you for the kind words in reference to their cooking. The Nestleton Women's Institute have planned a bus trip to Oshawa on July the 16th. The day shall include a tour of Parkwood Acres, (COLONEL Sam McLaugh- lins home) prior to his demise. From there a visit to the Oshawa Shopping Centre and dinner in Port Perry. | have seen Parkwood Acres and really it is well worth taking the time to go through this fabulous estate. It is extremely, gratifying to hear that Mr. Stanley Mal- colm and Mr. George Hea- slip have returned from hospital and are progressing favourably. May continued health be theirs. A bon voyage is warmly extended to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Welts and family who are departing via air jet on Tuesday for Germany. The family are to remain in their native land for two months, therefore have a family li- ving in their home until they return. As Mr. Welts has a great number of animals and tropical fowl, this is quite necessary. Their many friends and neighbours wish them a safe journey and and extremely pleasant visit. Gordon's market in Caes- area was a going concern on aesarea and area news Saturday evening as count- less Cubs, Scouts and their leaders shopped for a week- end of camping in Laurel Brook park. Groups from many different localities attended this camp-out. It was kind of the unpredict- able weatherman to oper- ate. The citizens of View Lake must hold priority on wild strawberries. On Thursda as 1 was purchasing box" plants I noticed dozens of people picking those delect- able little morsels. They make delicious jam. Of course that requires patience as the berries are so tiny and picking an ample supply would be time con- suming. Incidentally . that brings to mind the old adage, "patience is a virtue, and I may add, "when not imposed upon." The winner of the annual patio draw held by Court Lady Snowbird, was Mrs. G. Housmann of Weston, Ont- ario. Mrs. Housmann, when notified of the fact that she had won replied that is im- possible as she had not pur- chased a ticket, A friend had purchased one for her. The' seller of the most tickets was Mrs. Dorothy . Lee, received a lawn chair for her contribution to this annual event. Comé to think about t... Dorothy has won for the past two or three years. That lady is a born sales women. Congratulations to the win- ner as well as Dorothy. I wish to convey a warm welcome to Mr. and Mrs. Talbot Kirkwood who have moved from Goodwood to Janetville recently. Mr. Kirkwood is an employee for Roadway Transport of Oshawa. Another welcome, equally as warm is conveyed to another Roadway em- ployee and his family. Mr. and Mrs. Brian McComb and children have also pur- chased a home in this area. Just a thought . . . As we complain about the weather, little inconvenien- ces in our lives, etc. . .do we ever take time to say thank you Lord for all the beautiful fringe benefits that You so generously bestow upon us each blessed day??? Ash The Sunday morning ser- vice June 16th was conduct- ed by Rev. John Duff of Toronto. He took his text from Luke 14 and Mathew 22. 'The Unnoticed Invitation'. The anthem for the choir was 'Since Jesus Came into My Heart.' An enjoyable evening was held at the church on Friday night June 14 when a pot luck supper was sponsored by the Sunday School. After supper the children enjoyed some games. Then three nature films were shown by Miss Guest Preachers PORT PERRY SUMMER DRIVE-IN Each Sunday during July and August 7:00 P.M. Mr. and Mrs. Nelse Ashton visited 'Mr. and Mrs. Bert Guthrie and Mrs. Mary Bat- ty on Thursday of last week. Several from our Com- munity attended the Port John Deere Perry home show. A very impressive service was held in Burns Church on Thursday evening June 20th. When the presbytery of Lind- say and Peterborough in- ducted Rev. Stuart McEntyre into the charge of Port Perry and Ashburn. Rev. William Fairley, Moderator of the Presbytery presided. over the service. The message was taken by Rev. H: Reuiter, Rev. G.
