Montgomery, author of Anne of Green Gables. Mrs. Montgomery arrived in Leaskdale in 1911 and spent 15 years there as the wife of Rev. Ewan Macdonald. To mark the 100th anniver- sary. a portrait is being painted by Arnold Hodgkins, of Deerfoot Gallery, Leask- dale, Ontario (north of Ux- bridge). The unveiling and presentation of the portrait will be held at the Uxbridge Music Hall, Main Street, S., Sunday afternoon July 14, at 2:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend. The portrait is being dona- ted to the Uxbridge Scott Historical Society by the Toronto Dominion Bank. The bank has been in opera- tion since 1871. The society will display the portrait in their museum at Quacker Hill. The community considers it an honor, along with the Province of Ontario, to have this portrait since Mrs. Montgomery spent a large Will open recreation centre On Friday, July 12, Mrs. John David Eaton will offici- ally open a new $200,000 recreation and crafts build- ing at the Ontario Society for Crippled Children's Blue Mountain Camp, near Col- lingwood. Commenced last year, this 7.500 sq. ft. hexagonal- shaped addition to the camp's permanent facilities', will house a large centre ~hall, stage, areas for crafts, counsellors' offices and A.W. BROCK DEPARTMENT STORE cquipment storage space. Construction of this long awaited facility became pos- sible as a result of the 1972 Crippled Children's Thanks- giving Telethon. Mrs. Eaton will unveil a plague naming the building the John David Eaton Hall in commemoration of her late husband's long association with the Ontario Society and his support of its rehabilita- tion programs.
