Greenbank and area news By the time this is being read the results of Monday's vote will be known but it takes no special foresight to quote the french saying, the: more things change the more they stay the same. The personalities of the party leaders really dominated the campaign because their pro- posed solutions to the pro- blems ahead of us varied only in emphasis, not in original or challenging ideas. Would fresh approaches work anyway? How can a minor power like Canada solve inflation, scarcities, environmental hazards when they are inter- national in origin and the major powers are too pre- occupied with their own in- ternal bickering to co-ope- rate in seeking answers? On sundials there is an inscription found in many languages. which reads 'count only the happy hours.' Well you can count the happy hours with a lone - standing that matter. They make not only reliable clocks but good calendars. On a sunny day the shadow moves from west to east and there is a perceptible change in the shadow over the year as the sun moves from north to south and back again. The colour of the countryside changes, too. The lemon yellow of May and June sunlight gradually deepens to gold over the summer. This is probably from the darkinging of the foliage and the sifting of harvesting motes through the air. On a clear day country people need only to look at the light and the shadows to calculate the hour and the season. Please telephone items to 985-7279.
