? ¢ PAE) 22 PORT PERRY STAR Wednesday, July 10, 1974 Ashburn and area news Rev. Stuart McEntyre began his ministry at Burn's Church on Sunday. June 30th. The service was well attended. The choir sang for their Anthem 'Arise Shine" during the service the new organ was dedicated. Mr. E. Heron who was on the organ committee with Mr. A. Fisher gave the steps lead- ing up to the purchase before Mr. McEntyre dedicated it "To the Glory of God." Two special hymn books were also dedicated, one for the organ and one for the Sunday School piano. These books were given by Mrs. Howard Stiver in memory of her mother Mrs. Herr and Mrs. F. Stephens. The flowers placed in the santuary were in memory of 'Mr. and Mrs. Norman An- derson who were very activer in the church during their "life time. Their son Walter 'attended the service and visited with Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hopkins. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ashton visited with Mr. and Mrs. N. Ashton on Thursday of last week. Mr. and Mrs. N. Ashton visited with Mr. and Mrs. . Sam Arnold of Scugog Island one day last week. The recreational program at the community centre is bemg well attended. The children of the village and area are enjoying games, crafts, etc. The leaders are Miss Nancy Richardson and Miss Carol Ingleton. All chil- dren 5 -- 12 years are welcome every day from Monday through Friday. Sorry to report Mrs. N. Ashton at time of writing is in Oshawa Hospital. We hope she will soon be home again. Sixteen year old Albert Chaney, Rosa St. Port Perry, a member of RCSCC Sugay will depart Halifax 25th June returning in September. CCGS Labrador is slated to accompany an Oil Rig off the Coast of Newfoundland to the Hudson Strait, to assist the Hydrographic ship Hudson and supply Northern Detachments. Aboard the ship the cadets will perform such duties as lookouts, messengers as well as chart reading and the rules of the road. Leading Cadet Chaney was selected on the basis of his general know- ledge, high standing in the corps and all round proficiency. CCGS Labrador is under the command of Capt. P. Tooke.
