8 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, July 31, 1974 Nestleton, by Jean Bolan The Reverend Rick Glass, recently ordained young Minister of the Nestleton and Sonya Presbyterian parishes, accompanied by his lovely wife, have depar- ted on yet another phas- his dedicated life. Follow- ing a long overdue vacation which included visits with family in Manitoba and Rockford Illinois, U.S.A. the Glass's commenced the long journedy to their new parish in Wabush, Labrador. Needless to say the warm blessings and best of life's happiness was the wish that accompanied them from their many friends in this community. A recent wedding of local interest was officiated in the Blackstock United church by the Reverend Victor Parsons as the lovely Miss Heather Coates, daughter of Mr. and . Mrs. Jim Coates of R. R. No. 2, Port Perry became the bride of Mr. Ben Crawford, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Crawford of Nestleton. The bride attired in a floral gown adorned with a white shawl and picture hat was attended by her sister Joan. Steve Crawford brother of the groom served as his best man. The wedding dinner was held in the Rembrant Room at Emile's in Port Perry. An evening of dancing followed in the Nestleton Community Cen- tre. As the young couple took their departure, wishes for complete and lasting hap- piness in their lives accom- panied them from their guests. To these, on behalf of the community I extend a prayer for wisdom, under- standing of each other's feelings and blessings. Congratulations and the best of luck are extended to Mr. and Mrs. Perry Grandell fromerly of Nestleton, who have recently taken over the Variety shop in Port Perry. Receive guests from Holland Welcome guests of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wygerde of\Nestle- ton for a few weeks Wi and Mrs. Kees Qosterhout Wagenberg, Holland. We trust that their stay in Cana- da was pleasant and the journey home equally so. At present the Wygerde's are enjoying the company of Mrs. Wygerde's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Spierenburg, also from Holland. Three nieces of Mrs. Wygerde accom- panied their parents, they are lovely. These young ladies are visit- ing with Mr.a nd Mrs. Ben De Jong and family in Nes- tleton. - A safe and pleasant Journey is wished for the following. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hoskins of Nestleton whom are visiting the West Coast. Mr.a nd Mrs. Ivan Rohrer are erfJoying a trip to California. Mr. and Mrs. Merle Suggitt, they are in England for three weeks. Perhaps, due to the Star employee's vacation, by the time of publication these folks may have arrived home from vacation. How- ever we trust that each one found their holiday all they had expected of it and offer a warm welcome home to them. Ladies hold July meeting The July meeting of the Nestleton Presbyterian Ladie's Aid was hosted in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Wilson. The President, Mrs. H. Visser bid the ladies welcome. Miss Ruth Proutt Sec-Treasurer, sub- mitted the financial report and read the minutes of the previous meeting. Corres- pondence was read and acknowledged. The mem- bers decided to subscribe to a book entitled "The Upper Room" for a year. An invi- tation to attend the Sonya Ladies meeting on July 29 at 8 p.m. was acknowledged and accepted. The Roll-Call was well responded to by all present. Readings were done by Mrs. G. Gillson, Mrs. Stan McNeely, Mrs. R. Davi- son and Mrs. C. Wilson, all of which were thoroughly enjoyed. Mrs. H. Visser sang the lovely hymn, "Thy Word is like a Garden Lord." The meeting closed following the Mizpah Benediction. The President graceously thanked the Wilsons for their hospitality. A delicious luncheon, consisting of strawberries, cake and ice- cream and tea was enjoyed. Mrs. G. Wolfe voiced appreciation. There shall not be a meeting in the month of August. Welcomes new minister A welcome is conveyed to Mr.a nd Mrs. Brian Fraser the new Student Minister for the Nestleton, Presbyter- ian Church. The young couple took occupancy in the Manse two weeks ago. We sincerely trust that they discover their stay in our community is all that they expect it to be. May the. blessings of God be upon them in this their new endeavour. Another such welcome is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Dave Fergusson antl family who have purchased the Malcolm home in Nestleton. A wish for success and happiness in their new home is sent their way. A sincere for improved health is conveyed to Mr. Charlie Briggs of Toronto. During a visit to their home in Nestleton, Mr. Briggs was taken ill and is in hospital. A wish for a rapid recov- ery is also conveyed to our neighbourhood grocer, Gord Cooledge. Gord has an in- jured leg and is unable to get around much at the moment. Mrs. F. Bown of Caesarea, who is recovering from a severe case of the dread disease, Lock-Jaw, which confined her to extensive care in a Toronto hospital, is at present recuperating nicely in Port Perry hospital where she has been transfer- red. Her many friends as well as her husband are pleased with this news. Mrs. Bown lost two toes in an an accident with a lawn mower, which almost cost her her life following complications. Another of our lovely laides has recently made her official debut. Little Miss Tanya Mappin, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mappin was the guest of honour at a baby shower given by her Aunt Mrs. David Frew of View Lake. Her Mommie, the former Valerie Frew took the seat of honour on her daughter's behalf. Assisting with the many lovely gifts was Miss Virginia Frew and Miss Tammy MacMillen. The co-hostess, Nancy Edgar, served a delectable luncheon. Valerie expressed her gratitude. .Daddy Paul was rather proud also. A belated birthday wish is extended to Mrs. Lottie Kernsey of Caesarea. This dear little lady recently celebrated her eighty second birthday. She has informed me that she spends her winters with her son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. George Kernsey in Tarpon, Florida as she at her age finds shovelling snow etc. far too difficult now. Bless her. . If ind it far too difficult at my age. To honour her on the very special occasion, her son George and his wife came for a visit. We trust their return trip was plea- sant. Many happy returns of the day are sent your way Mrs. Kernsey. May your next trip to Florida be pleasant. The Walter Welts family are enjoying an extremely wonderful stay in Germany. I received a post card con- taining a cheery hello to all their friends. Congratulatins are con- veyed to Mr. Ivan DeJong who was recently selected to join the "Young Voyagers':, of Canada in their summer activities. On July 7 and 8 the group were visiting Ottawa from there they travelled to Kimberly, British Columbia. Ivan atends Blackstock Secondary school. We missed our "Home Town' newspaper last week but sincerely hope the publisher, Mr. Hvidsten any staff enjoyed their brief vacation. A prayer for improved health is offered on behalf of a dear friend and neighbour, Mr. Grant Thompson of Nestleton. May he regain his strength as the summer pro- gresses. Due to the low price for ol# newspaper these days, the Venturers have for the pre- sent discontinued pick-up. Just a thought . . .
