LE AE OS A ; { Greenbank and area news Most of our readers are familiar with Murphy's Law: if anything can go wrong it will. There is also Parkinson's Law: work ex- pands to fill the time avail- able for its accomplish- ment. Recently contributors to Harper's Magazine have supplied some laws drawn from their own experience. These include: junk expands to fit the space available to , store it; your only dime gets the wrong number; the other line moves faster - in banks, supermarkets, customs and son on - if you change lines the same thing happens; people will accept your ideas more readily if you attribute them to someone famous. Everyone can add his own personal frustration. For in- stance, any small object dropped will disappear into the farthest and darkest corner under anything else; with everything but the main ingredient for a party dish on hand none of the local stores has it in stock at the mo- ment; the best kitchen knife has been used to open a paint can. A portent? Years ago more simple people would await with nervous expectancy some awful decision of providence. Science can surmise the cause of the tolling, but does that mean that science is not sometimes hand-in-glove with superior authority? Watch out!
