The opening of the new tennis courts near the lake coincided with the tourna- ment held on August 24 and 25. 1974. The first matches were already played on Thursday and Friday, so that the semi finals and COLOR TV's EO ee finals could be played during the weekend. As too many people were involved in different things, various matches had still to be played the following week. The results of the matches were as follows: The ladies singles was won ~ by Riet Orde defeating Mary Skinner in 2 sets 6-1, 6 - 3. In the ladies doubles finals Margaret Waite and Riet Orde def. Though both girls lack the competition exper- ience they played quite a good game and gave many good returns. - In the men's singles semi finals J. Neill def. D. Beare in2sets 6-1, 6-3, whereas J. Scott def. B. Heard in 2 sets 6 - 2. 6 - 3. The men's singles was won by J. Neill with J. Scott in3sets6-4,4-6, 10 - 8. in a marathon match which had to be interrupted and speaker Reg.*339% Reg. 279% was finished during the week. John Scott, however, deserves a medal for per- severance! The men's doubles is still undecided! The semi finals were won by D. Nicholishen - J. Scott and B. Heard - D. Lapp. Worth mentioning is the fact that some of the tennis club members worked hard to get the courts ready for the tournament. Lines were set out .and painted, nets ordered, reordered 'and installed and without George Bright's and Morley David- son's pushing on, in order to get things ready, the tourn- ament never could have started in time! The 1974 edition of the Ontario County Bush League has come to a conclusion. The season ended in fine style on Tuesday, Augusl 27 with the final score 'of the last game in the Champion- ship Series. follow the pattern set by the first two between Nestleton and Raglan. In the first inning Nestle- ton scored three runs and Raglan came back with one of its own. Both teams scored again in the second. Nestle- ton a single run and Raglan two. The score remaine 4 - 3 for Nestleton through the third inning but the Rolner & Dorrell team added another run in the top of the fourth. Raglan then tied the game with two runs in its half of the fourth and the game remained tied until the sixth. Nestleton could break the tie but Raglan moved one ahead leaving thier opponents one The last game did not more al bat, Once more Nestleton couldn't score and the game and season were over. ~ For Raglan this victory @, capper a three year struggle to win the OCBL Trophy. In the first year of play they lost to Greenbank in the final. They were beaten out in the semi-finals by Port Perry last summer. The Raglan Recreation win also ends Greenbank's two year domination of the Trophy. The final game also con- cluded an excellent season for the Nestleton-Rohrer & Dorrell start of the playoffs they were the dark horse team. They were underdogs against first place Port Perry but won in two straight. They were under- dogs in the finals but won the first game and lost the last '% to by only one run each and outscored Raglan 21 - 17.
