Week of Publication The following is a letter which have sent to all our employees IMPORTANT NOTICE TO THE RESIDENTS OF PORT PERRY AND SURROUNDING AREA September 3, 1974 Dear Employee: i. The strike at our company has now lasted for nearly eight weeks with no end in sight. During the strike a great deal has been said and written concerning our situation, but we have remained silent up until this time. The untruths, half-truths and innuendos regarding our strike irresponsibly reported by many of the news media, have, | feel, made it necessary for me to present the true facts of the situation as it now stands in order that everyone concerned with our labour problem be completely and accurately informed. Last Wednesday, August 28, the Company and the Union attended a meeting conducted by a Mediator appointed by the Ministry of Labour. At that meeting the Company nearly doubled its previous wage offer. For instance, production employees were offered 40 cents per hour immediately and an additional 30 cents per hour effective April, 1975. This proposed increase amounts to over 31 percent during a two year period. Employees in other classifications were offered percentage increases in the area of between 24 percent and 26 percent over the two years. "In addition, the Company has offered substantial improvements to the fringe benefit package, including; 1. An increase in the Company's share of premium payments from one half to two third for all benefits; 2. An increase in weekly indemnity benefits to two third of salary to a maximum of $113.00 per week (integrated with U.I.C.); 3. An increase in life insurance benefits to an amount equal to an employee's annual salary. We have also offered a fourth week of Vacation after 15 years service with the Company which will mean a great deal to our employees in the future. For several years our employees have enjoyed three weeks vacation after three years of service, a benefit which far exceeds most companies. Unfortunately, the union's bargaining committee rejected our proposal and withdrew from the meeting. We feel this is particularly unfortunate since certain employees have left our Company to work with other employers at rates less than we have offered. It would therefore appear that we are now at a stalemate, with no end in sight. We feel that our offer is a fair one, and worthy of more consideration than it has received. Despite the strike we have been able to operate, and we will continue to do so. Jobs are available at our proposed rates to any employees who choose to return to work. The purpose of this letter is to clarify the Company's position and to rectify any misconceptions that may presently exist. Feel free to contact the General Manager. Mr. Irwin. or myself if any furthef clarification is required. Yours very truly. FLAMINGO PASTRIES LIMITED SLs vr a SVEN KFJ:fv Kenneth F. Jackson. President.
