A -day make to order for the Senior Citizens planned bus trip and boat tour of the famed Thousand Islands in Ganonoque. Two chartered buses carried approximately eighty people from Port Perry, Blackstock and Caes- areca who had been keenly anticipating this outing. They departed from Black- stock at nine a.m. and depart at one p.m. so time was of the essance. Arriving at the pier at twelve fifty, needless to say, all present boarded the ship the "Thousand Is- land which with three spac- your home at an economical price, Natural Gas makes sense in other ways, too. It's clean. Cus- tomers who have changed their forced air furnaces to Natural Gas report that their drapes and walls stay much cleaner. A gas furnace will also pro- vide you with extra space in the basement or recreation room. Since there are no fuel tanks, 4 you can use the space for storage or recreation. Energy conservation is a great concern today and most homeowners are doing everything pos- sible to cooperate with government and communi- ty efforts to save. We feel that a thorough inspection of your heating system, combined with an up-to-date Natural Gas fur- nace, is a good way to do this. For more details, call your Gas Company today. The three hour cruise was thoroughly enjoyed a quite informative and educational as places of interest were described via loud speakers in both French and English. Among the most impressive sights was the magnificently reconstructed replica of a European Castle built for the wife of Mr. G. Boldt. This castle was constructed of stone and the island upon which it stood was a heart shape, thus the name "Heart Island". Before the project was completed, Mrs. Boldt died and in his grief Mr. Boldt had all work cancelled. That was many years ago and to this day no one has lived in the castle nor ever shall. The public is at liberty to explore the immense ro- oms, walk through the fabu- lous grounds at their leisure but the majority return to the ship with a feeling of sadness. Another point of interest was the view of Zavikon Island. This Island is in two parts, the larger is Canadian the tiny isle is American. These two Islands are con- nected by the world's short- est International bridge, which is approximately one hundred feet long. The sum- mer home of Kate Smith and the hideaway for Ira Gersh- win among other celébrities are located on what is called "Millionaires Row' were quite impressive also. This spring the great In- dian Chief Manitou visited his birthplace. He was named after his place of birth, Manitonna, (The Gar- den of the Great Spirit), thus named. After viewing new shops ete, Manitou raised his bronzed face Heavenward and with gorgeous headdress rippling in the warm breeze, gave thanks to the Almighty for keeping his beloved Ganoque truly a place of health and happiness. The cruise ended at four o'clock and a weary but happy group boarded the buses for the return trip home. Supper was enjoyed in the Belleville area. Arriving home around ten p.m. many of the Senior citizens com- mented that the day was glorious and would be gorg- ious in the fall when Nature is rampant with colour. The heartfelt sympathy of the entire community is con- veyed to Mrs. Ben DeJong upon the recent passing away of her dear father in Holland. Our prayers are with her and her family at this time. Sunday, August the 25th was dedicated as Decoration Day at the Nestleton United church. The Reverend Larry Johnson officiated at the service as numerous relatives and friends placed floral arrangements upon the final resting place of loved ones. The 'Presbyterian Choir from Port Perry contributed much to this. Just a thought . . . Many of us become involved" in numerous projects, clubs etc. to-day. We complain about how time consuming these things are . but is it not wonderful that we are alive and well and that God allows us this required time??? How fortunate we are. o INSURANCE 985-7306 [5] RG
