Service HHT EEN News from Sea Anyone venturing out this morning (Tuesday) didn't lack for signs of fall when the weather man certainly gave us a taste of what is to come. Then there were the crowds of children impatiently wait- ing for the bus to take them to school for what we hope will be a year of learning. For the kindergarten begin- ners it was a red letter day and we suspect that most of the others were glad to go back although they would never admit it. Our senior students who have been here and there working during the summer are all back and ready to go and so are the local teachers. We might just mention a couple of teachers more or less connected with us. Teacher Clifford Moon who has been at loose ends the last few weeks is again at work in Oshawa. Teacher Harvey Webster and his son Scott of Bowmanvill made a few calls around here on Thursday. He tells us he can put B.A. after his name now. Former villager Mrs. Jean MacTaggart is spending a short time with Mrs. Bessie Fishley. As Thursday was Jean's birthday (we didn't ask which one) her hostess invited a few old friends and neighbours in for a quiet celebration. ' On Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. Len Somerville put on a corn roast for their neighbours on the south side of the community. It was enjoyed by all. Mr. and Mrs. Don Beacock and sons attended the Bea- cock-Devitt picnic at Lake- view Park, Oshawa on Sat- urday. Mr. and Mrs. Don Hunter took in Kinmount Fair on Saturday and called on Mr. and Mrs. Henry of Bobcay- geon before coming home. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Dowson of Port Perry celebra- ted their 25th wedding anni- versary on Sunday with dinner at Conway Gardens. Of course Mrs. Reta Boe, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Boe and sons were at that affair. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Wana- maker as usual spent the Labour Day weekend in Hal- iburton with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Webb. During the week Mr. and Mrs. Bert Hutcheon and daughters spent some time in the Hamilton and London districts and also called on friends in Bancroft. Incoming visitors included the Carl Boe family from Kingston who were with Mrs. Reta Boe. Mrs. Della Spring of Rich- vale and Mr. N. Hicks of Picton were back to have supper with Mr. and Mrs. Les Third on Friday. Then Mrs. Hazel Cowie and Mrs. Gertie Ham of Markham came for a week end with the Thirds. On Sunday these ladies visited with Mr. and Mrs. H. Berry of Cannington while Mrs. Third attended a bridal shower for her grand- daughter Vicki Third of Janetville at the home of Mrs. W W. Wilson in Gorm- ley. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Willou- ghby of King City spent Thursday and Friday with the B. Wanamakers. The Tobin company this Sunday were Mrs. Roy Moon of Raglan and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bridger of Newcastle. From a distance came Mrs. T. M. Lowry of Lexing- ton, Kentucky for a weeks Nodwell. PORT PERRY STAR -- Thursday, Sept. 5, 1974 -- 3 On Sunday Mr. Bill Morley and Miss Jean Perrin of Newcastle brought two cou- ples from Buffalo to visit their cousins at the Clements - Belair home. Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. T.A. Venner were Mr. and Mrs. Tom Venner and family of Mississagua. Our Venners expect to take off on Wednesday for Ottawa where they will holiday with Mr. and Mrs. John Venner and family. Miss Donna Bruce and friend spent the holidy at the Morley Bruce home.
