Mr. MacDonald said the stream which runs from Prince Albert to Lake Scu- gog is in a real mess from where it crosses Queen Street right down to the lake. At the suggestion of Mr. MacDonald, council agreed that some of a Local Inia- tives Program grant the township hopes to receive should be used to do the work. Mr. MacDonald said temp- orary work can be done immediately to help prevent the Lawn Bowling Club from being flooded, but that work on an LIP grant couldn't start until January 1. Trees will be cut down, the creek bottom will be cleaned out and the banks sloped and perhaps seeded or stoned as part of the program, Mr. MacDonald said. 4-H activites By Susan Gunter Meeting One . Blackstock 4-H Club No. 3 Once again 4-H has started in Blackstock. This fall's project is a "World of Food in Canada." Anyone who decided not to take this course is really misEyg something. Not only are"we learning the history of our great country, but also we are learning to recognize and respect the traditional practices of various cultural groups within our country and to appreciate how our food habits are influenced by Canadians of many different backgrounds. Also, co- operation, skill and imagina- tion in preparation and serv- ing of food. Besides all this 4-H is fun! We had the first meeting on September 17th at the Recreation Centre at 4:00. Mrs. Adams and Mrs. Dui- vestyn are leaders and we couldn't have found better ones. They make learning fun. We talked of early Canada of Columbus and Cartier, of Indians and how they lived. We made Baked Indian Pudding and Succotash. While they were cooking, we elected our officers. Louise VanCamp is presi- dent, Anita DeJong - vice president, and Janet Parson is Treasurer. Joanne Wolters and Debbie McLaughlin was elected pres; secreta- ries. We were honoured with a visit from our new Home Economist Miss Hopkins. Next we tasted our delicious baked Indian Pudding and Succotash. 'Both were good. The second meeting was on Tuesday, September 24. This meeting' theme was "Heritage from New France." We made Four- tiere and Grand Peres. Four- tiere is a delicious meat pie and Grand Peres dumplings in maple syrup. They were delicious. We still have not decided upon a club name. Clean-up followed. Seagrave The second meeting of 4-H was held on September 25 at .the Seagrave United Church. We are very happy to have two new members, Sharon and Donna Wallace, join the club. The meeting opened with the 4-H pledge. The collec- tion was $1.90 and the ba- lance is $18.33. We deducted the cost of the covers and the ARGTS EAL, HAA. ys ' HERE RON oI CR YE ¥ : "8 375 Th - . La SA lL ie ets LS The Port Perry Lawn Bowling Club had the start of a flood after only a few hours of rain last week. Big puddles began to accumulate on the greens during the rain. Club members hope the township can clean out a small stream beside the greens soon so that proper drainage can take place in the spring. Seagrave and areanews Our first item this week is an expression of our sym- pathy to Mrs. Ellesworth Kennedy whose sister Mrs. Murray Woods of Bowman- ville passed away on Friday. Perhaps the most common question heard around here last week was - "Have you heard anything about Ber- nard Standish?' Until Sun- day the answer was not really encouraging but now we can report that he is much better. We have another patient in Oshawa Hospital in the person of Mrs. Jas. Durward who was suffering from ulcer troubles and had to undergo surgery on Satur- day night. Also the community's old- est lady Mrs. Clara Sleep has been in Port Perry Hospital for nearly a week hoping to regain her strength. ° Writing of the elderly re- minds us that Mr. Isaiah Irwin is right now looking forward to celebrating 'his 95th birthday on Thursday. Congratulations and best wishes Mr. Irwin. Demonstration season seems to be with us again. On Wednesday evening Mrs. Carr hosted a Stanley demonstration Thursday evening Mrs. Bar- rett had a Copperware demonstration. Coming up is a Jewellery demonstration 'present to Mrs. Little. A demonstrated and dis- cussion on table setting and table manners was held. First we were each given a piece of cutlery and china. We-proceeded to set a place at a table. Then the club divided into two groups, one group sat at a table and showed good manners to be used while the other group of girls exhibited bad manners to be avoided. Mrs. Little gave an ex- ceptionally good demon- stration on flower arranging. esting. Mrs. Little talked about drying flowers and many other things. We closed with the 4-H motto. Laura Procunier then on sponsored by Unit 2, U.C.W. which will take place at Mrs. Don Hunter's new home on Monday, octber 7. All the ladies are invited this time. Mr. and Mrs. Tobin's Sun- day company were the Frank Tobin family from Blackstock and Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Tohin from Oshawa. We likely would miss some, so we won't attempt to name the couples who attended the plowing match in George- town last week. We know there were several. _ Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Carr apparently had a Smith family gathering on Sunday. Their dinner guest were Mr. and Mrs. Barry Nicholls and Sherrie of Orillia, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Smith and Glen from Woodville ga Mr. and Mrs. Gary Smith from Lind- say. Mrs. Don Beacock is a busy woman these days. She has an extra boy of tender years, Master Glen Whitta- ker. His mother is in hospi- tal. as full-time church choir leader but will be available to keep if and when we need arises. After practice on Thursday night, the organist and choir members met at the Bruce Carr home for a little social hour and pre- sented 'Mrs. Nobbs with a small gift of appreciation. Those pre- sented were Alaine Sandra Weinhold and Jason Edward Weinhold, children of Mr. ghd Mrs. Ed. Weinhold- and he children's young aunt Kristine Louise Bell. All were from Robinglade Estates and were accomp- anied by quite a number of relatives and friends. Next Sunday we will be joining with other churches in celebrating World-wide communion. Service at 10 o'clock. Two Carr daughters Cathy and Karen. dropped their birthday pennies in the S. S. box. Ladies are reminded that they are expected to turn in their used cards and postage stamps at the next general U.C.W. meeting and also bring agift for a retarded child.
