This game was marred by a wild brawl with three _ minutes left in the game as Steve Craig of the Flamingos tangled with Glenn Rice, and Bob Marquis squared off with the Bowmanville' tough guy" Dave Tabb. Many of the fans at the game felt the officials were slow at inter- vening, and this brawl could have been avoided with alert officiating. They play in Sutton this Friday and host Frankford on Sunday. Rob Ashenhurst, the young Flamingo defenseman suff- ered a nineteen-stitch gash to his neck in a collision during the Bowmanville game. He will miss several games, but "Red" Reeves, an Uxbridge boy, made his first appearance on Sunday and played well. He should help when the going gets rough. Dave Hill, also, played in his first game on Sunday night after sitting out a two-game suspension for an exhibition game "hassle" with a referee. Big things are expected from Dave on the offense as he is a fine rushing defenseman. Larry Elson was brought up from the Port Perry Midgets for the week-end games and scored his first goal against Lindsay. Doug the top Sr. football team loses by touchdown By Linda Pacilla On Friday, October 11, the Port Perry Junior football team put up a tough struggle against Oshawa Catholic High School. Early in the first quarter, Ken Bryant opened the scor- ing, putting Port ahead 6-0. The lead was maintained until late in the second quarter, when, with about 40 seconds left, Oshawa Catho- lic, in two plays went all the way from their own 40 yard line. The convert was good to give Oshawa the lead 7-6. In the third quarter, the Oshawa Club cashed in on Port fumbles and increased the lead to 14-6. Again, in the * fourth quarter, Port's faulty pass coverage, resulted in Oshawa's third touchdown. Despite Oshawa's substan- tial lead, they did not win the game easily. With 3 minates left to go, the Port Club really put on the pressure. A hand-off to Colin Wack- ett moved Port to within five yards of a touchdown. A second handoff to Wackett, by Gordon Hintze gave Port the major. Port faked the convert and Ken Bryant ran it in for the additional two points. The pressure did not let up. When the final whistle Port downed by Pickering By Linda Pacilla > On Friday, October 11, the Port Perry Senior football team met the well-disciplin- ed, powerful Pickering club who remain undefeated in regular season play. For awhile it looked like Port would upset Pickering and at half-time, the Red- men led 12-7. However, despite an amazing tough struggle on Port's part, the game was dropped 20-12. Scott Howsam broke around the left end and sprinted thirty yards for Port's first touchdown. Rick VanWeston intercepted a Pickering pass and rushed forty yards to the Pickering - end zone to boost the score. John Scott showed increas- 'ing poise in his second game as quarterback. On defense, Andy Litt, Bruce McClaurin, Scott All- ward, Gary Baker and Earle Barr kept the pressure on in a superb fashion. sounded, Port was within two yards of scoring again.
