C. R. Gray, district manager, said that after several years of careful planting and assessment, the Ministry has determined that survival of fall planting of nursery stock is generally poorer than spring planting in this area. Mr. Gray said the Ministry recommends spring planting to ensure superior survival and growth of seedling. But if you must plant in the fall, conferous seedlings should be planted in early October, while hardwoods should be planted in late October or early November. These dates vary a little from year to year, due mainly to temperature diff- erences and. the nursery should be able to tell the buyer when the stock has reached a proper condition 'to assure maximum surviv- al, Mr. Gray said.
