24--PORT PERRY STAR--Wednesday, Nov. 6, 1974 Lack of puck shooting Juveniles drop season openers The Port Perry Juveniles - which are sponsored this vear by "Menzies Motors Volvo are off to a bad start this season. losing their opening game to Pickering 1-3. and to a strong Stouff- ville-9-2. In.the first exchange. the Menzies boys were on the right track but the lack of shooting the puck instead of always looking for their wingers (in my opinion) cost them this game. Scoring for Port were Peter Van Weston with 2 and Casey. Van Shagen 1; and assists Doug Bronson with two. A CUT oO ABOVYE THE REST! FISHERS FARM SERVICE 'ASHBURN, ONT. -- PHONE 655-3842 In the second encounter it was a strong Stouffville team that applied the pressure and the Menzies boys held their end up pretty fair until about midway of the second period, then they seemed to let up a little which Stouffville used to their advantages. The big gun for Stouffville was Andy Leitch, as he scored four and assisted on one. Scoring for Menzies were Rod Campbell and Chris Brain with assists going to Doug Bronson with two and John Kane. We, the Manager and Coaches, were pleased to see quite a few fans from home at Stouffville Saturday night and hope we can show them some good hockey shortly. Our next game is in Ux- bridge on November 6th. Our first home game is November 7, 1974, with Stouffville coming. Game time is 9:15 P.M. Thursday night. Scott completes 8 of 16 passes for 99 yards On Friday, October 25th, Port Perry High School lost the football game to Ander- son but discovered new offensive power. John Scott, the team's rookie quarterback, had the best afternoon of his young career. He completed 8 of 16 passes for 99 yards. Scott Howsam, the seasons leading scorer, ran forty vards for a touchdown in the first half and piled up eighty- four yards before the game ended. Shawn Taylor grabbed 3 "passes for 45 yards, one included a diving catch that resulted in a touchdown which put Port Perry ahead 15-14 at one point in the second half. A powerful Anderson finish gave them the win. The Port team, however, is a young team, and is expecting to be considerably stronger next season. } Get a new HOMELITE XL2 ...makes cutting ..and let the neighbours try it!
