/ Defeat Lindsay, Port Hope Lg dp aia eS CRN iba BA OS A Td 5 SS LA RE a IAs ; Flamingos continue winning streak Port Perry Flamingo Pas- tries Juniors stretched their current winning streak to four games by virtue of two wins in the past week. The Flamingos are now within three points of the first place Cobourg Cougars and only a single point behind = both Lindsay and Bowmanville. The Port club also has games in hand on all three of the teams and if they con- tinue could be near the top in the next couple of weeks. On Friday evening, the Flamingos travelled to Lind-- say and handed the Trent Muskies a 6-5 loss in one of the most exciting games of the young season. The local club jump into an «early five to nothing lead on three goals by Bob Marquis and two by Robin Kydd, but the Lindsay team put it all together in the late stages of the second period and in the Pee Wees show scoring ability against weak Newcastle team The Legion Pee Wee's in their home opener Friday, Nov. 1st showed plenty of scoring punch, popping in 5 goals in each period. New- castle scored 3 times in the first period to keep within range but for the last two periods it was all Port Perry. The unit of Sandison, Storry, Wilbur, Brown and Durward led the way with 18 scoring points while holding the opposition scoreless. It was apparent, Newcastle were playing their first game of the season and for sure they will be a lot tougher the next time around. Myers was particularily outstanding in goal for Port and paired with Franssen this team now has goaltending second to none. Scoring for Port were Sandison (4), Potts, Wilbur, Storry two each, with singles by Menzies, Tobin, Kane, Burnett and Durward. Tuesday, October 29th, in an exhibition game played in Little Britain arena against Lindsay, Port were defeated 5 to 4. This was Pee Wee Hockey at its best with both teams playing fast skating, hard hitting, hustling brand of hockey. Lindsay opened the scoring early in the first period with Kane coming back to tie it up at the 5:45 mark. From then on it was a real see-saw battle with only one goal separating the teams at any time. Burnett played a strong game to lead Port with one goal and three assists. Andrews and Potts scored the other two goals while Jobb, Parker and Kane were each credited with an assist. Final score Port Legion 15, Newcastle 3. Barry Heard was outstanding in goal for the Flamingos in the last two periods as he made twenty-seven saves, many of them of the sensational variety. } Steve Turner had two goals for Lindsay with Steve Brooks, Dan Eastwan and Steve Lytie getting single markers. On Sunday night at the local arena, it was no contest as the Flamingos easily defeated Port Hope Panthers 12-3. Dennis Galbraith had three goals: with Dave -Jobb and Andy Litt getting two each. Single scorers were Steve Craig, Rob Ashen- hurst, Dave Hill and Robin Kydd. Wayne Cordingly handled forty-six shots in the Port Perry net but many were long and the Panther never really threatened. The next home game for the Flamingos will be Sun., "November 10th, when they play host to the first place Cobourg Cougars. This should be the best game so far this season as the local club is making a run for first place and a victory over the Cougars would go a long way in the league standings. A large crowd is always 'on ~ hand for the Flamingos - Cougar games, so fans are advised to come early and cheer the boys to victory. FLAMINGOS SPORT SHORTS The Flamingos travel to Sutton this Friday night to play the Rangers. The local club have an earlier win over the Rangers 3-2. Rick Campbell and Bernie Aldred both missed the Sun- day Port Hope game as the "flu bug' kept them out of action. Robin Kydd moved into the top five in scoring in the Junior "'C"' league with nine- teen points. The Flamingos have one of the youngest players in the league, as Ed Olsen a first year midget is only fifteen years old, and continues to play impressive hockey on defense. The Lindsay Trent Muskies were fortunate on the week end as the lost 6-5 to the Flamingos on Friday night and had to score two . goals in the last twenty-two seconds on Saturday 'to. sal- vage a victory over Frank- ford and stay a single point ahead of the local club. word in snowmobiles. The first goal went to Phil Cochrane assisted by Dave Horton at the 1:50 mark of the first period. Less than a minute later VanCamp was given a pass by Larry Page and the score was 2-0. The game was marked with more than the usual number of high sticking penalties as the referees clamped down on anything held above the shoulder, for any reason! Pickering scored when Port had a man short and Rick Taylor scored unassist- ed as the period ended to make the score 3-1. John Scott opened the scor- ing in the second period assisted by Cochrane. Then Dave 'Horton picked up a loose puck in the corner and slapped it out to John Scott who was waiting to put in his second goal. Don Tran brought the puck out of his own zone and made a lovely pass to Larry Page who was cruising in front of the Pickering net. Page's shot bounced off the Picker- ing goalie and Rob VanCamp was in perfect position to tap in the rebound. Steve Jones made the score 7-2 with a backhand al avs chins 4 shot with Larry Elson pick- ing up the assist. Charlie Durward played another fine game in net far the Wheels and gave the crowd a thrill as he pulledia Jerry Cheevers trick Hy rushing out almost to the blue line, to knock away la long Pickering pass. Cochrane scored two more in the third period and Horton picked up two assisis and John Scott one. The Toyota team will play this same Pickering team on Monday in Port Perry and travel to Port Hope on Friday. Next Monday, Nov. 11, they will be host to a strong Stouffville team.
