Rose are going to discuss the proposed widening of Lilla Street with Durham officials. Council decided to send these two men to the regional works committee and per- haps the planning committee to discuss suggestions made by Mr. MacDonald to council on Monday night. Earlier in the evening council heard a presentation by Dave Muir and Fleming Galberg, outlining their " objections to a regional plan which would add a parking Lane to Lilla Streel. About 45 people were there to hear the presentation with most opposing the planned widening. - Mr. MacDonald suggested that Lilla Street be recon- structed as a two lane 28-fool wide road and that a (wo-foot V-shaped gutter be installed next to the road. A twelve-foot drop-back curve should then be con- structed from the gutter to the sidewalks, he said. There is a similiar design in use in Columbus, he said: The drop-back paved curve would be on a slight slant upwards towards the sidewalk and could be used for parking. he said. "I don't know if the Minis- try of Transportation and Communication would approve such a design or not, but T would be willing to go down to the region and find out what they think about the matter." he said. The Blackstock Women's Institute opposed the idea of removing the stage com- pletely. . The dispute first came to council on September 23 and at a subsequent meeting of the Cartwright Parks Board, Mr. Gibson agreed to a compromise solution that would see a stage occupy half of the front of the hall. But Mr. Gibson said Mon- day night that the Senior Citizens had voted on that idea and rejected it. Coun. Don Frew said they had held many meetings on the subject and that another Parks Board meeting would be held at which they would make a decision one way. or the other and then report back to council. Mr. Frew said that it had been estimated it would cost $8,756 to carry out the com- promise plan. This did not include plumbing, electrical work: or painting, he said. As Mr. Gibson was leaving the. council chambers, he said "If there is no stage, then there is no money. adhe ' 32 Pages 15¢ per copy ry Volume. 109 -- PORT PERRY, ONTARIO, Wednesday, Nov. 20, 1974 -- No. 3 ; : va Committee instructed to start working on details of arena The arena committee was given the go-ahead by Scugog council Monday night to start working out details for a single-pad arena.
