Council decided" Monday night not to reduce the letter of credit of the subdivision developer until the water problems are solved. Ken Whitehead, a resident of Eastview, presented coun- cil with a petition with signatures representing 51 of the 58 homes in the survey. Four homes are vacant at this time. Mr. Whitehead said the pressure in the subdivision's communal water supply system has been consistently low or non-existent for the past several weeks. He presented a day by day breakdown showing that water was off for long per- iods of time during an 11-day period. Mr. Whitehead asked that council assume control of the water system and rectify the situation. But nstead, council turned down a request from B. S. Arbus that the developer's letter of credit be reduced from $43,000 to $18,000. A letter of credit is required by council to ensure that when the developer turns the con- trol of the subdivisions water system over to the region, it will be in proper condition. Council can in some cir- cumstances use funds from the letter of credit to rectify defects in a system. Mr. Whitehead said that bathrooms reek from toilets Cof C needs more clowns Scugog Chamber of Com- merce is looking for clowns. Mayor Lawrence Malcolm said he had talked to a Mr. Murray, from the develop- ers, and had been told that two engineers had been sent out Friday to attempt to straighten out the situation. The Mayor pointed out that control of water is no longer local council's responsibil- ity. He said the region would assume control of the water system in 1976 under the development agreement. Council also wants a situa- tion regarding easements for Town Hall the properties straightened out before the letter of credit is reduced. 2 Mr. Whitehead said there was enough water in the two communal wells and that the problems were in the pump- ing system.
