These ladies were in Kingston, Saturday, November 16, where they competed in the annual Ladies Auxiliary Regional Cribbage Tournament. Out of forty teams registered, they placed eighth. The winners had 2,340 points, while the Port Perry team were behind 29 points, which gave them 2,311 points. The first team from Branch 419 and of Zone F1 to reach the Provincial level, they will be competing again in June, 1975. Council claims no involvement in Platten Island dispute There appears to be no municipal involvement at this time in a dispute Platten Island residents are having with Goreski's Marina. A motion stating the above was passed by Scugog coun- cil Monday night in response to questions submitted to council by some "Platten Island residents. ~ Council . also passed a motion saying that the resid- ents' purposes could best be served by contacting a solicitor. Jerry Taylor said he had asked the residents on several occasions why they hadn't taken their land dis- pute with Mr. Goreski to their solicitor sometime ago. Mr. Taylor said he had never received "a real direct answer' to these questions. OBITUARY --- CHARLES DOUGLAS PALMER A barber by trade, Charles Douglas Palmer died at Hillsdale Manor Saturday, Nov. 16. He had been ill for several months. : Born Dec. 3, 1892 in Eldon Township, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Will- iam Henry Palmer. He was educated in the Yellow School house north of Port Perry. He joined the Canadian Army and served overseas during the First World War with the 38th Battalion and was wounded in action. - He worked for the civil service when he came home from the army and after- wards operated a barber- 'shop in Port Perry, Peter- i borough, Oshawa and Tor- onto. He retired late 1950, and had lived in Oshawa since that time. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 43. His wife, the former- Arminella Elizabeth Enright died before him. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Roy Salter (Edith) of RR3, Newton- ville; two brothers, Harry of Hampton and Russell of Oshawa. Funeral service was held from MecIntosh-Anderson Funeral Home, with inter- ment in Prospect Cemetery, Toronto. Bishop Bruce Clark of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints officiated. Wiring reports exaggerated Reports that aluminum wiring used in thousands of Canadian Homes could be a fire hazard are exaggerated, according to a special Ont- ario Hydro team set up to study the matter. J. A. Dicker, Hydro's "manager of electrical ins- pection, said that although the team will confinue its "things aren't nearly as bad as alleged earlier". The team recommended that anyone concerned with electrical installations watch for these warning signs: hot or discoloured - plates on-- switches or receptacles; un- usual odours in the vicinity of an electrical outlet; per- sistent but intermittent flick- ering of lights for no appar- ent reason.
