Members enjoy banquet receive awards About seventy members and guests of the Port Perry Rod and Gun sat down to an excellent turkey dinner pre- pared by the Scout and Guide mothers in the Scout Hall 'recently. Speaker for the evening was quite appropriately, Arnie O'Donnell, fish and wildlife manager for Lind- say District which the Port Perry area now is part of. The main item of the evening, was naturally, the annual presentations of trophies, crests and other insignias. Unfortunately, it was too long a list of recip- ients to list them all here. All trophy and shield win- ners were not present to receive their well deserved proofs of capturing the top awards, but those present are proudly displaying their prizes in the pictures on this page. In the top picture is the guest speaker, Arnie O'Don- nell, fish and wildlife man- ager for Lindsay District, in a friendly chat with Club president, Ted Culbert. Displaying a big victory smile and trophy is Dave Vivian, the senior trophy in the Sporting Rifle competition. Fraser Lee was a proud and happy competitor when he received the trophy for, Novice Sporting Rifle com- petition. At left Gerald Jackson, who won the silver shield for Sporting Rifle and Charles Harper, the gold shield winner. Not present were Wm. Harper, winner of the club's hand gun trophy and Kevin Crews, Junior Sporting Rifle trophy. Capture Carling trophy Three teams from Port Perry curled in the Carling Ladies' Invitational spiel, Wednesday, November 27th at the Oshawa Curling Club. The rink skipped by Clara Martyn came home with the trophy. There to help her was Norma Kenny, viceing; Jeanne Goode, throwing second rock; and Betty Beare leading off. There will be a general meeting. held at the club, Thursday, December 5th at 1:30 p.m. All members are expected to attend. Port Perry Flamingo Pastries Juniors continued their "hot and cold" play of the last couple of weeks as they split two games last weekend. On Thursday night, the Flamingos travelled to Port Hope to play the home town Panthers and although they dominated the game and held a wide margin in play, the final score was only 3-2 for the local club. The story of this game was the outstanding goaltending of Kevin Tyndall who time and time again held the Flamingo forwards off the score sheet and by the end of the game had made 58 stops and only allowed goals by Dave Jobb, Bernie Aldred and, Ed Olsen, with the game winner. Mike Watts and Jim Hart replied for the Port hope team. The Sunday night game was a complete reversal as' the Bowmanville 'Red Eagles" defeated the Flam- ingos' 5-3. This game was similar to the Flamingo- Lindsay game of last week as the local club allowed the visitors to dominate the first period and build up an early lead, and then try to come back in the late stages of the game only to fall short on the scoreboard. Neil McLaugh- lin, Rick Campbell and Paul Hadden did the scoring in a rough contest. A. Johnson OPTOMETRIST for appointment call 985-2383 or Zenith 59240 PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Dec. 4, 1974 -- 29 Bowmanville edge Flamingos Coach Wayne Redshaw, and Manager Carl Luke are concerned over the lack of scoring in the last couple of weeks. Outside of the 8-1 win over the Sutton Rangers last week, the club as a unit is in a scoring slump, accounting for only three goals a game in the other four- contests. If Doug Christie can return to the line-up before play off time, and if he can regain his scoring touch, this could solve some of the problem, but another good scoring forward would certainly makeca difference starting into the first of the new year and for the, play-offs.
