28 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Dec. 11, 1974 Nestleton, Caesarea and area news On Monday evening, in spite of the dreadful weather we experienced, the tiny church in Caesarea was a warm and rewarding place to be. Accompanied at the piano by John Litt and on the guitar, by the lovely Miss Janice: Watson, the voices of adults 'and children inter- mingled in song. Mr. John F. Raines of Port Perry bid welcome to all. He then 'announced that the Carol, Joy to the World be sung, followed by the lovely Carol, Oh Come All Ye Fairthful. It was beautiful to hear the voices of tiny children at this particular time of the year, although, not quite certain of all of the words, they sang with meaning and sincerity. Miss Watson, playing her guitar. sang Away In the Manager, later during the programme she sang "Day by Day'. Itis not customary to applaud in church but Janice sang so beautifully that all present felt it neces- sary. Mrs. Fred Raines read, a poem entitled, 'Memories of - Christmas at Home", which brought back to mind many pleasant memories. Mrs. Mary Stewart did a lovely reading entitled, "Dreams". Another story, Ready for Christmas, was - related by Mr. Malcolm Alfred, (formerly of our area). Mrs. J. Raines read from the Scriptures a chap- ter in reference to the birth of the Christ Child. Scenes taken in 1971 by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pickard of Port Perry on their tour of the Holy Land made one feel as though they also were there. Scenes such as the Tomb where Christ was buried, the path He painfully trod carrying the terrible cross that was to be His death warrant, and forever burned in the very soul of man for all time to be, the city of Nazareth and many more views of the land. that the Christ Child played in as a boy and grew into a man. Scenes that are such a con- trast to the long ago Biblical times were shown. Scenes of war between the Arabic and Jewish people left much to be desired. The ruins of the Temple wherein Christ taught love and Christianity to the hundreds of His follow- ers, brought a touch of sadness to all. As Mr. Pickard so aptly said, "it was an indescribable feeling to walk upon that Hallowed ground where once Jesus Himself walked'. The even- ing came to a close with a prayer offered on behalf of all present and with the hope that that little church shall always be filled each Sunday afternoon from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. This is an inter- denominational church and as Mr. Arthur Baldwin said in his closing prayer, Jesus Christ gave His very life for the sins of man. Can we not then give Him one hour on Sunday afternoon in return? It certainly gives us some- thing to think about. The December meeting of Court Lady Snowbird was held in the Nestleton Rec Centre on Thursday evening. The President, Jean Bolan announced that the meeting was to be the briefest in the history of Lady Snowbird as it was also the eve of the Christmas party. The Secre- tary, Sr. Marg Lee, read the minutes of the November meeting, correspondence and thank you cards. Sr. Dorothy Lee then gave the financial report. We discus- sed the Children's Christmas party, which is to be held on Wednesday evening, Dec. 11 in the Nestleton Recreation Centre. '""Mrs" Santa shall be present to delight the little ones. The list for Cheer Baskets was revised and a committee formed for that project, which annually brings a warmth to the hearts of each member as these bountiful baskets are-delivered to our aged and infirm in our midst. The meeting came to a close according to ritual. A pot luck supper consisting of home-made bread, salads, delectable home baked beans, meat pie, etc., pickle trays, delicious desserts and wine, followed by the exchange of gifts, brought the evening to a close. Just prior to leaving the hall, each member wrote her name, birthday and anniver- sary on a paper. These slips were then put in a bowl and a name drawn by each lady. The name you selected is to be your "Mystery Sister" for the coming year. At the end of the term of office the name elected by you is the person your Christnias gift is purchased for next Christ- mas. During the year you may send a card for Easter, birthday etc to the lady whose name you drew. No one knows whose name the other has, so it should be fun * wondering who is sending you a card. This suggestion was presented to us by Sis. Carol Doyle and appreciat- ed. Ladies do not sign any card you may send. Just keep them guessing and knowing women, that will be maddening. It is with deep regret that we 'hear of the passing of a loved one at any time of the year, but at Christmas time it seems so very much more regretful. I, on behalf of the Community, wish to convey heartfelt sympathy to the families of Mr. J. Porter, Mr. John Slemon, Mrs. £. Tennyson from this area, and to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Allen (my brother and sister- in-law) whose son was killed last week. May God in His Infinite mercy be with these families in this their hour of SOrrow. A warm wish for a rapid recovery is: conveyed to Mr. Norm Mairs and Mrs. M. McKee. Hurry and get well you two as we'would all feel better if you also were in good health for Christmas. Just a thought... .Never look back at an unhappy exper- ience in anger, nor at the future with fear. Simply gaze around in awareness and gratitude for what you do possess. - i A} A 760 TO YOUR NEIGHBOUR = AND) | HONESTLY ASK, & WHO'S THE BEST AT A-HEATING -- ~~N, THOMSON .
