The Bowmanville club started fast and used their usual tactics of hitting and roughing every Flamingo in sight and dominated the first period. The Flamingos were fortunate to come out of the, period 2-2 on goals by Paul Hadden "and Bob" Young while Dave Tabb and Rory Gibbs scored for Bowman- ville. FLAMINGOS SPORT SHORTS The Flamingos have a busy weekend ahead as they host Sutton on Thursday night at Uxbridge Arena and they play in Frankford on Friday night and play a return game against the Huskies in Port Perry on 'Sunday. The Frankford Club are playing excellent hockey of late and only trail the top teams by a few points. This is an important home and home series for the Flamingos. The Lindsay Trent Mus- kies have "fired" coach Rick Purdy last week and have not won a game since losing' to Frankford and to Bow- manville. Andy Litt is again sporting a new cast on his injured thumb, but it didn't hurt his performance on Sunday in Bowmanville as he played his-usual rough game hitting every "Red Eagle" in sight. Dave Tabb the Bowman- ville "tough guy" had six- teen minutes in penalties on Sunday night, but the last two were costly as it allowed the Flamingos to tie the game. / In the second period the Flamingos started a little hitting and checking of their own, and a unassisted goal by Neil McLaughlin put them ahead and with a little more luck and some accur- ate shooting could have add- ed to their total but Bruce Osborne tied the score at 3-3 before the period ended. The Red Eagles scored two quick goals in the opening two minutes of the third period and the Flamingos seemed to be going down to a defeat, but Wayne Cordingly in goal for the juniors was then replaced by Barry Heard who played sensation- ally the remainder of the game and kept the home club off the score board. This seemed to give the Flamin- gos added incentive, and Coach Wayne Redshaw using four defencemen on his powerplay fought back for - the tie. . Steve Craig scored both third period goals for the Flamingos with Bob Young, Paul Hadden and Dave Hill all playing well-on the power- play with either Robin Kydd or Bob Marquis at centre. This tie was a big lift for Wheels win despite It's hard work to convince some players that unneces- sary penalties will mean bench work or worse! On Monday, December 2, the Toyota Wheels had their usual tough game with Port Hope and emerged the win- ners by a score of 6-4. However, the warning that the team received only a week before seemed to go right over the heads of a few players and as a result Port Perry had 40 minutes in penalties plus-a' game mis- conduct. Don Tran had six minutes in the second period and fourteen minutes in the third _for a total of twenty minutes. He also received a game misconduct for fighting in the penalty box. Tran was already serving a miscon- duct when Port Hope's Dave Monteith was given a high sticking penalty and struck Tran as he entered the box. It was Trans retaliation that earned him the extra mis- conduct. Monteith also had two misconducts in the game. Phil Cochrane picked up his third "hat trick' of the season with assists from Sean Taylor and Gord Scott with two each and Mike Adam with one. When you're ready for some real fun, see us. Rick Taylor added to his points with a goal and the assist going to Sean Taylor. Dave Harris scored from Robert Van Camp and Mike Adam scored his first goal of the season to finish off the scoring for the Wheels. As a result of the penalties in the Port Hope game, the Toyota team went with only two lines and manager Terry Edwards took over the coaching duties for the Saturday night game against Pickering. This time the penalties were not a factor in the game and Port Perry only picked up one in each period. The Wheels had little trouble with the Pickering team as they scored fourteen times. John Bourgeois played his first game in net for Port Perry and made some fine saves while allow- ing only two goals. The line of Horton, Jones and John Scott connected for fifteen points and Phil Coch- ranes line with Gord Scott the Flamingos as Bowman- ville have been on a hot streak and the local Juniors returned every 'body check', *"'highstick" and "elbow" thrown their way, something they haven't been doing lately. The next home games for the Juniors will be Thursday, December 12th at Uxbridge when the Sutton Rangers are the opposition, and, on Sun- day night, the Frankford Huskies will play the Fla- mingos in Port Perry. Game time for both games will be 8:15 p.m. penalties and Sean Taylor on the wings counted twelve points. John Scott led the team with four goals and four assists as a result of some pretty fancy stickhandling. Steve Jones played one of his best games to date and notched three goals and two assists. Centre-man, Dave Horton picked up two goals despite being out for part of the game as a result of a deep cup. over his eye. Gord Scott scored twice and had opportunities to notch a couple more but was foiled by the Pickering goalie. Sean Taylor, also, had a "hat trick" for the Wheels while Dave Harris who was playing on the defence scored a single. Rick Taylor, Jamie Malcolm and Rob Van Camp counted assists to round out the scoring for the Toyota team.
