Merrill Van Camp, chair- man of the Parks Board, said the board hadn't received any help from council all year and yet now the mayor _ was trying to drag the board through the dirt. Mr{YanCamp denied alle- gations by the mayor that the board -lacked.zeal and enthusiasm for the job it was doing. } "I don't know where the mayor got his ideas from," Mr. VanCamp said. 'He Council approves day care centre Despite the reservations of Coun. Bob Kenny, Scugog council approved the idea of a day care centre for Port Perry. Mr. Kenny said he read that it was costing $5,000 to $6,000 a year to keep one child in a day care centre in Ajax. Mayor Lawrence Malcolm _ said it only cost about $3,000 certainly should know what a good job the Board is doing since he comes from the community." : In a report to council, the mayor suggested that the halls in Cartwright be leased * to local organizations that would run them. Harvey Graham, a Cart- wright councillor last year, said he was alarmed at the mayor's suggestions and said that the Parks Board has operated successfully over many years. Mr. Graham said it wasn't right to "Chuck an organiz- ation" 'because it is having trouble with one particular problem. a year a child to operate a centre and 70 per cent of the cost was subsidized by the province. The province will also pay the total cost of building a day care centre for Port Perry for a limited time. Coun. Reg Rose said most parents would pay $7.00 a day per child to use the day care centre. ---the - former He was referring to the dispute between the Women's Institute and the Blackstock Senior Citizens over the design of the inter- ior of the old Town Hall in Blackstock. The Senior Citizens have a New Horizons grant and want to remeve the stage - from the old Hall and to replace it with a kitchen, while the Women's Institute wants at least part of a stage left. The Senior Citizens have threatened to return their money if they don't get their way. _ In his report, the mayor suggest the old Town Hall be rented to the Senior Citizens for a nominal fee of $1.00 a year. They would have to let other groups use the Hall. Norman Johnson said the group operating the Nestle- ton Community Centre would like to rent the Hall from the Township for a nominal fee. - The Parks Board in Cart- wright is in charge of all the Halls and various buildings in the former township. In township of Reach, the various halls and buildings are run by local committees. } di 1: YE 4 py 4 1 0 s » 5 - v hh I SRY eH AE STR VINE A fy TVA Museum buys Frise originals Scugog Shores Museum has added a most interesting and valuable possession to the ever-growing contents in the museum. Tuesday, last week Mr. Goss arrived at the museum where he personally pre- sented the drawings to Mr. Al Bertrand, a member of the Museum Board.
