Scoring for Port Perry was Paul Storry with an assist going to Bob Horton. On Friday, December 13, Malmont Farms hosted the Cedar Hill Atom Team from Scarborough. Don Mark's Cedar Hill team had a hard fight in order to get a 3 to 3 tie with the local team. Port played an excellent game and had a superb goaltend- ing effort from Clay Lover- ing who stopped the oppon- ents cold on several clear "shots from close in. Whitby took the lead early and John Scott tied it up on a fine series of passes from Dave Horton and Steve Jones and then Port Perry went ahead on a: goal by Jones this time with Horton and Scott getting the assists. Whitby came back and scored twice near the end of the period. In the second period, Whit- by went ahead 4-2 and things didn't look good for the Wheels. It was Dave Horton who got the Wheels rolling with two quick goals followed by Cochrane with two more and Gord Scott with a single and by the third period the score was a comfortable 7-4 in favour of Port Perry. As usual with the Toyota boys, the third period was the one with all the excite- ment. Whitby scored three times and what had looked like a win in the second period was beginning to look doubtful. John Scott saved the game with a pretty goal, unassisted. Whitby insisted that Scott was offside and protested strongly to the referee. As a result, they were assessed a minor penalty for delaying the game and since there were less than two minutes to play, a penalty shot was also awarded to Port Perry. Lary Page took the puck, pulled the Whitby goalie and slipped the puck in the far side to count the insurance goal. Whitbys coach and man- ager were so upset by this series of events that they refused to finish the game until the referee reminded them of the consequences of - 'ended up in a 4-4 tie between this action. Final score was Toyota Wheels 9, Whitby 7. Also picking up points and playing some good hockey were Randy Crawford and Jamie Malcolm. Durward wasn't sharp for this game and if it weren't for 'the Wheels ability to score, the game could have been a big win for Whitby. The Wheels played Bay Ridges on Thursday, and handled them easily by the score of 6-2. The Port Perry team were short a couple of players due to illness and the seven forwards seemed "to thrive on the extra work. Don Tran scored from Horton and Crawford to lead off for the Wheels. Gord Scott, who always handles the puck well, counted with Cochrane and Rick Taylor picking up the assists, and Steve Jones scored two in a row. Van Camp, Gord Scott and Phil Cochrane counted points on Jone's. goals. After some good checking and two assists, Phil Coch- rane finally notched his goal with Tran picking up the assist. Tran scored his second of the night to end the Wheels keep on winning game and Sean Taylor and Dave Horton counted the assists.
