14 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Monday,-Dec. 23, 1974 Nestleton, Caesarea and area news On behalf of the many readers of the Star' in this and other areas, I wish to convey to Mr. P. Hvidsten and staff an exceptionally Merry Christmas and joy and prosperity in the coming year. Mrs. Santa Visits Nestleton: Community Centre Following a treat of ice cream, cookies and pop, twenty-three youngsters, eyes twinkling in keen antic- ipation and excitement, sang Christmas Carols, accom- panied at the piano by Mrs. Nick Bobel of Nestleton. All eyes were on the door through which "Santa"' would appear shortly. Listening to those young voices of the children of the members of Court Lady Snowbird, brought the true meaning of Christmas a little closer to the hearts of mothers and fathers and guests that were present. The setting for this special occasion was the Nestleton Community Centre. Sudden- ly the singing grew softer, for the sound of tinkling bells a . became audible from the . front entrance. The look upon the faces of those children as "Mrs. Santa" came frolicking through that door followed by 'Miss Christmas Carol" was some- thing to behold. Red gift hy laden bags over their shoul- ders, they, in gorgeous costume, wended their way through the startled children to the seats of honour beside the gayly decorated tree on stage. Mrs. Santa explained that "| GREETINGS | V 4 % f i Winston and Joan Efford, former owners of Port Perry Variety Store would like to wish Perry and Doris Grandel, the new owners a very Merry Christmas with every success in the new year. Also to all the people of Port Perry and surrounding area a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Santa..at the very last minute informed her that he had another call to make and asked if she would visit the children of Court Lady Snowbird for him, to which she replied, "I would be indeed honoured". As each child 'was called to receive their gift, they presented "Mrs. Santa' with a hug and kiss and a quiet but sincere thank you. Miss Christmas Carol pre- sented each one with a bag of goodies as they left the stage. On behalf of the members and children of C.L.S., Mrs. Santa was pre- sented with a lovely gift of appreciation. She responded with "Oh my goodness, a gift for me, Thank you all". As ~ she left the stage the child- ren all called "Thank you Mrs. Santa and a Merry Christmas". I am almost certain that I saw a tear in Mrs. Santa's eye at that point. Following a game of musical chairs, a weary but extremely happy group of children departed for home. The heartfelt C.L.S. is offered to Miss Emmis Cox (of T.V. com- mercial fame) and to the lovely Miss Zena Ockej.... both of Caesarea, for the best performance possible. -The Caesarea Euchre club held their Christmas party in _: the home of Mrs. Bud Train on Tuesday evening, Dec. the 17th. Approximately seventeen members were present. A few games were played followed by a supper of Kentucky fried chicken, pie and ice cream and coffee, tea and a delicious. punch provided by Sandy Day. After the exchange of gifts, the ladies departed for home and were surprised to 'see that the softly falling snow did indeed create a perfect atmosphere of Christmas. Many of our local residents from View Lake, Janetville and Caesarea enjoyed the annual Christmas children's party held for the members of Roadway Transport. The event was held in the Polish Hall on Stevensons Road in Oshawa and a capacity crowd thrilled to the joy of lovely gifts. Of course, hundreds of children were agog as Santa appeared laden with exceptionally beautiful gifts for them. Food was in abundance as were soft drinks etc. The community extends a sincere wish for a rapid recovery to Mr. Kurt Gobkes of Nestleton who is again hospitalized for surgery on % his back. g- The same wish is applied to Mr. Walter Welts who has been undergoing treatment for a back injury for the past month. We are happy to hear that Mr. J. McMillen of Caesarea is home from hospital and is improving. : I wish to take this oppor- tunity to wish each of you that reads my column the very best that life has to offer in the coming year and an exceptionally Merry Christmas to all. Just a thought - Please drive carefully over the fest- ive season...for death is so permanent. Keep in mind... they that are left to mourn, are the more unfortunate.
