BY Dave Mather, Dale Carnegie Instructor A father and his young son were going out one day to cut down the family Christmas tree. It was a yearly tradition and- the 'boy had been looking forward to going out with his Dad for weeks. Finally the day came. The boy's father took the axe and began the jour- ney into the bush to find just the right tree. A heavy snow had fallen the night before and the ground was covered with several inches of fluffy white snow. The branches of the trees were bent under the weight of the heavy snow. The woods were so peaceful, untouched by human hands. The father found his mind relaxing. His thoughts wan- dered for 'a moment to the many problems he faced during the day. He thought of the challenges he faced. Before he realized it, he was several yards in front of his son. He stopped, turned, and looked back. There was the boy bravely jumping from one footstep to the other... straining to follow the impressions his dad had left in the freshly fallen snow. The man felt a surge of emotion as he realized in that brief moment that his _ son was doing what all sons and daughters had done over the years - tried to follow in their parents footsteps. _ As he reflected on' that thought, he began to think of -- TRY OUR -- Surf & Turf Steaks | Filet Mignon Lobster Tails Queen St. Living Learning for Living Learning for Living Learning for living 10 WEEK COURSES Commencing £ TUESDAY 29h 3 12.50 "per Course St JAN: 7th, P <2, ™ HAIRDRESSING 8 FURNITURE REFINISHING g NEEDLE CRAFT s CHAIR CANING SN INCOME TAX REFRESHER SHORTHAND J PORT PERRY HIGH SCHOOL REGISTER NOW BY PHONING : Mr. Sharpe 985-2225 ~ - h, 3 Learning for Living Emiel's Place Licensed Dining and Banquet Rooms Fishermans Platter Port Perry - ) earning the other impressions he had left for his son to follow. He thought of the times he had been abrupt with the boy. He thought of the times he had criticized the -boy. 'He thought of the times he had missed opportunities to real- ly help his son develop into the kind of person he could - be. He silently resolved to strive to be more aware of the impressions he was leav- ing with his son. You know many of us really never do stop to realize the importance we play i the lives of others. We fail to recognize that there are people who strive to follow in OUR footsteps as that little boy did with his father's footprints in the snow. As one man said, "Remember, you may be the only bible someone reads." Perhaps the greatest leg- acy we can leave for the future generation is to be the best possible person we can be. Perhaps the greatest gift of all, is the gift of a better you. The real energy crisis today is seeing human poten- tial go to waste. Most people live their lives using only a fraction of the latent talents and potential given to them. Perhaps when we recognize that developing ourselves to our full potential is not a luxury, to be done "When I get time" or "one of these days,"...but is an obligation that should be important enough to do today. 985-2066 THE DURHAM BOARD OF EDUCATION REGISTER NOW for Night School Classes BASIC PHOTOGRAPHY INTERIOR DECORATING Mrs. Willes 985-7032 ) for Living Learning for iving 37 a Ly Ha ad aN SIE Redistribution of Provincial ridings The Hon. William G. Newman, Minister of the Environment of Ontario and Provincial Member of Parliament for Ontario South, has made the follow- ing statement concerning the effects of redistribution on his riding: The announcement of new electoral boundaries has re- duced the size of the old riding of Ontario South in three places. West Rouge, North Pickering and East Whitby are all transferred to . other ridings through the use of the new municipal boun- daries created by the form- ation of Durham. One of these changes has particular significance to me since it means that my own North Pickering residence is no longer in my riding. Because I have often recorded my intention tobe a candidate in the area where I live, my future course now becomes undecided. I have already been invited to con- "sider standing in my new "home riding of Durham North where Dr. Matt. Dy- mond is retiring but, of course, my historic attach- "ment to Durham West riding has been built through seven years of association with countless friends and sup- porters as their elected representative. The decision on my future course is obviously one on which I must deliberate very carefully. - HANCOCK TV TOWERS COLOR HEADS Rotors - Towers UHF-VHF Installed or Kit Form Port Perry, Ont. 985-2968 After 5:00 P.M. the Region of THURSDAY JAN 9th.
