She was miserable at the thought of meeting other people, whether they were strangers or those she knew. She would, literally, stay away from people. She would avoid meetings of the P.T.A., and other organizations in her community, because of her dreadful fear of others. Fortunately, June found the solution to her one great prob- lem. She overcame her fear of people. Someone convinced her that, if she would learn to stand before a group of people and' express herself, she would develop a genuine confidence in herself that would spill over in- to every phase of her life. She finally accepted the chal- lenge. It was hard for her at 'first, but she diligently applied herself, and within a period of three short months June awoke to the thrilling realization that her fear was gone. About one year later, that once poor, shy, miserable, in- hibited girl, who had been held back only by her deep seated fear of people, was invited to serve as chief hostess for a na- tional convention. June had found the quickest and easiest way to develop a foundation of genuine self-con- fidence. She was released from a mental bondage of false in- hibitions and fear. She was set free to express her true self and to become, in the eyes of those who knew her, a much more interesting woman. June did not aspire to be a - public speaker, although on several occasions she found it fun. Her real interest was the by-product, the self-confidence that permeated every phase of her life was the most impor- tant. Countless thousands of both men and women have found the same secret. We overlooked mention of R. H. Cornish students who visited to carol through our halls during the last week of school. Christmas eve we wel- comed back Tony McNaugh- ton, now Brother Anthony, who took the church service and visited with everyone. He is now working in the States. Christmas day saw many out to visit their families, or families visiting here. Our noon meal was festive with everyone together at a long table. Again, our cooks are to be congratulated. We were kept busy with visitors and visits out from Boxing Day through the following weekend. Mrs. D. dropped in on Saturday while home from Renfrew. We were all pleased to see her. When the lion's Club asked "how many would come to their Wine and Cheese Party", we were enthused but by Monday night, the old adage "The spirit is willing but the flesh is. weak' held true. We were too tired. Asa result only four residents attended. Our apologies to the Lions Club. However, the next night, nine of us stayed up to see the New Year in with a little wine and cheese party of our own. wo Earlier New Year's Eve, the Christian Reform Church took the service opening with hymns and prayer followed by a solo (Joyce Mulder) and scriptures (Mrs. Kieze- brink). Mr. Hendriks- delivered the message fol-. Susan and Pat Pell together with Sally Meima played and sang for a 'sing-along" which we very much enjoyed. . New Year's Day saw a repeat of Christmas with roast beef instead of turkey, a delicious meal. Thursdays bingo was well attended, only two weeks without it and we were all eager to start again.
