Chairman Ronald Werry welcomed those present. The financial report showed an expenditure of $2,671.52 and a balance of $934.23. A budget, with suggested ex- penditure of $3,420.00 was approved. Projects being planned are a Dairy Prin- cess Competition, A Twilight Meeting, A Concert and Dance, and financial support for 4H Dairy Calf Clubs. Auditors elected for 1975 were Ted Smith and Murray Stone. Presentation was made of certificates of quality pro- duction to the 12 milk pro- ducers with the best record on the basis of barn score, gel count and bacteria count. The winners were J. L. Harbron, Garnet W. Beare, Dean Beatty, Bert VanDyk, Gerrit Kroekenstoel, Grant Hilts, Dave Thompson, Ross Smalley, Bierema .Bros., Loa-de-Mede Farms, Mca A. Mustard and Wintermere Farms. George McLaughlin pre- sented the Lynn Fair Trophy for the top Quality producer in 1974 to Gerrit Kroeken- stoel, his third consecutive win. The members of Ontario County Milk Committee as elected are as follows: Pat Duffy, Don Crozier, Hans Bissig, Wm. Reid, Ted Gordon, Grant Carson, Chas. J. Hadden, Maurice O'Connor, Byron Holtby, Ronald Werry, Leslie W. Smith, Clarence Wilson, Murray Jackson, Murray Cox, John Davis. The guest speaker was Mr. George McLaughlin, Chair- man Ontario Milk Marketing Board. Mr. McLaughlin noted that the Federal Gov- ernmant was withdrawing the 2¢ per quart subsidy on February 8th. This will likely cause an increase in the consumer price. "Also, the milk pricing formula indicates a raise in producer price by April 1st. Mr. McLaughlin also spoke about the recent widespread out- breaks of Brucellosis. He states that there are two ways of dealing with Brucel- losis, vaccination or eradi- cation. A program of vac- cinating all calves would cost from 12 to 15 million dollars annually, and there would be no hope of ever really being clear of the disease. Eradication might cost more the first year but after that, the cost would be very minimal. But for a policy of eradication to be acceptable there must be an adequate and realistic valu- ation on condemned cattle. Vice-Chairman Byron Holtby thanked Mr. Mec Laughlin for an interesting address and also for his excellent leadership as- Chairman of the Milk Mar- keting Board. Chairman Werry intro- duced Mr. Rolly Coy, Man- ager of the Farm Labour Pool. Mr. Coy explained the program of the Farm Labour Pool and their purpose to supply farm labour on both a permanent and short term basis. The Sunderland W.1. served lunch and the farmers enjoyed an hour of exchange of ideas. ee TT TT == eg 4 15% ore We i Awning & Patio Doors. on orders taken before 'March 15th, 1975 Insulate and Beautify ALCAN ALUMINUM Dusome Window Products > Your Home with SIDING Tr Tr TT A A Phone 985-3572 BV VOOR 35935353533ss sss WES PLUMBING - LANE HEATING - - ELECTRIC - PORT PERRY 985-2473 OFFICE -- RESIDENCE PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Feb. 12, 1975 -- 73 = 50 County milk producers pith NR -- ~ iw TARR RNC i Cp -- TW Ce ave CNN ----r Th
