« 5. 4 Cs LCR 7 VF a rave PER La ae With a proposed water 'system and two subdivisions in the hamlet of Greenbank," despite the objections of the Region's planning cénmittee. : Coun. Lawrence Malcolm (Scugog) said that develop- ers will sit down with the region's works department to iron out plans for the work. A planning and develop- ment committee report delivered last week to e regional council indicated no subdivision development in Greenbank until the official plan is completed in 1976, a recommendation some of the rural councillors considered to be descriminatory against rural municipalities. It was pointed out that no subdivisions have been ap- proved at all in rural areas ® since the region was formed, Port Perry to debenture hydro work First and second reading ® of a bylaw to authorize a $108.200. capital works pro- gram for the Port Perry Hydro Electric Commission was part of the business of Monday's meeting of Scugog Township council. A total of $88,200. will be contributed by the commis- sion, the remaining $20,000. to be debentured by the village over a 10-year period. Work will include a new $45,000. substation, $24,000. in overhead and $14,500. in underground lines. About @ $17,800. will be spent on transformers, and $5,500. in meters. Third reading will come after the Ontario Municipal Board approval has been received. Greenbank Developers will go ahead while all kinds of subdivis- ions in Oshawa and Whitby and other larger municipal- ities have gone through. Councillors opposing a pro- posed Greenbank develop- ment restriction on the grounds that the decision would not only affect Green- bank, but all rural munici- palities. Acting planning and development committee Chairman Coun. Breaugh (Oshawa) pro- mised that an interim popu. lation projection report will be available before the end of this month, and the devel- opment would not have to wail two years (for the offic- ial plan approval). He said the subdivision has been ap- proved locally, and the region need only decide how to service it. Coun. Reg. Rose (Scugog) called such a move an altempt to bring the entire region up to the service level of the most expensive towns and cities, a level that smaller communities neither want or need: Two weeks ago, planning committee vice-chairman Mike Breaugh persuaded his committee that no more sub- divisions be allowed in Greenbank until a' policy regarding the future populat- ion of the hamlet is adopted as part of the offical plan, not scheduled for completion until the end of 1976. Greenbank is currently controlled by the old Reach Township offical plan. Subdividers already have approval from Toronto, and . according to Coun. Lawrence Malcolm, have the tacid approval of the region. He said the subdivision applications have been before the region and that the region had not objected to them. Mayor Malcolm said the official plan covering Greenbank-Reach area calls for expansion 600 feet in BN iti Church PORT PERRY CHARGE The United Church of Canada Rev. R. The right-of-way serves as access to a large piece of lakefront property council wants, eventually, to develop into a park, with such things as boat launching facilities. There are two accesses, one at the north end that the region wanted closed, the other at the south end, at North Street, that the town- ship wants closed. Problem with the south entrance, according to coun- cillors, is that heavy vacat- ion traffic, lugging boats and trailers, would have to travel through the downtown area. FREEZER SPECIAL Red Brand A Side of Beef 1 Beef The compromise 1s coun- cl's willingness to accept another access point to the area off Lilla Street, between Perry and Beech Streets. Eventual road widening would mean no extra expan- sion problems for residents, according to Mr. Twelve- trees, who said the region should have no objections should a resident wish to expand his residence toward the rear or side. The position was expressed after Mayor Malcolm asked if a person with 17 feet cut off the front of his property would have such problems with region bylaws. Mayor Malcolm added that Scugog township "'would not be diffi- cult" in such cases. w.*1.02 Hind of Beef 1.1.18 Homemade SAUSAGES Pride of Canada WEINERS Lean 1.89° Lb. pig.
