Flamingos reach final play-offs Port Perry Flamingo Pastries Juniors have ad- vanced to the Central Ontario Junior "'C" Hockey League finals play-off series by virtue of two weekend wins over the Frankford Huskies. The Flamingos el- ® iminated, the Huskies 4 games to 1, in a series that everyone around the league was predicting a Frankford victory. On Friday night the Juniors made the long drive to Frankford leading in the series 2-1 games. Frankford had upset the local club on Wednesday 8-7 right in Port Perry and the odds seemed to be in favour of the Huskies evening the: series at two games apiece. The Flamingos started in a great flurry and built up an early 4-1 lead on goals by Dave Hill, Bob Marquis and two by Dave Jobb. The Frankford club, as in the past three games, battled back and tied the game in the ~ third period, but a goal by Ed Olson and Bob Marquis with his second of the night gave the Flamingos the victory and a 3-1 lead in games. Barry Heard played an outstanding game in goal for the Juniors making 35 saves, but the big one of the night came with just over a minute left in the game and with a one goal lead. Lou Doucette . the Frankford high scoring little centreman 'walks-in' » alone on a break away, but Barry stood his ground, and picked off the shot to end any hope the Huskies had of tieing the game. On Sunday the Flamingos played another great game at home as they eliminated the Huskies by an 8-6 score in a thrilling overtime victory. The Flamingos took a first period 2-1 lead on goals by Carlo Camazzola and Robin Kydd while Curt McLean replied for Frankford. Intosh and Jean Doucette scored for the Huskies and Andy Litt replied for Port Perry in a 'wild and woolly' third period. The lead chang- ed hands twice with Robin Kydd getting his second of the night and Bob Marquis getting his first. Scott Poupart replied with a single goal and .Al Mac- Intosh completed his 'hat trick' with two more goals to give the Huskies a one goal lead with just over four minutes' remaining in the game. The Flamingos were not to be held back as they got the tieing goal by Neil McLaugh- lin on a pass by Dave Jobb from behind the Frankford net. In the overtime period both clubs had several scor- ing chances before captain Paul Hadden scored the win- ning goal on a 'point blast' with assist from Jobb and McLaughlin. Carlo Camaz- zola scored his second goal of the night one minute later to wrap up the game and the series. The Flamingos must now wait the winner of the Cobourg - Lindsay series « which started Menday in Cobourg and must be com- pleted by the 28th of Feb. Doug Christie returned to the line up for last Wednesday's game and is being used as an extra forward until he rounds into shape; if Doug can regain his 'Scoring touch' he could be a great asset in the finals. Dave Bourgeoios had the misfortune to fracture his ankle in last weeks game and will be lost to the club for the balance of the season, a very tough break for Dave and-the - hockey club. Larry Elson has missed the last three games due to a shoulder injury. Lindsay Trent Muskies and the Cobourg Cougars started their best of 5 series on Monday night and have until Feb 28th to complete their series. The Flamingos will play the eventual winner in a best of 7 series for the league championship. Prediction for the Lindsay - Cobourg series - the Cougars in 4 games.
