Richard Taylor of Sea? grave. They brought with them their Suzuki snow- mobiles and had fun on Lake Scugog. On February 8th, two teams of members from the Legion Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 419, participated in the zone cribbage tourn- ament in Oshawa. One team placed second and the other third. They will now go on to Regional level later in the spring. The members com- peting were, Mary Hawes, Vera Knott, Gwen Greive- son, Mabel Cook, Ev. Souter, Marion Gray, Bert Mason and Leona Wilson. On Saturday of last week, Ev. Souter, Marion Gray, Bev Evans and Gwen Greiveson, members of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary travelled to Whitby for a INFANTS BOYS JACKETS zone euchre tournament. After the election of direc- tors the general meeting was adjourned, a quick directors meeting was held at which time, Richard Drew was elected president, Peter Hvidsten, first vice- president, John Williams, second vice-president. In his opening address of the meeting, president Richard Drew said he would like to see the Chamber get more involved in civic activ- ities. "We have seen a lot of growth here over the past few years and we must keep an eye on this growth, to make sure it is going in the direction we feel it should," he said. "Mayor Malcolm has been very receptive to the Cham- ber," Mr. Drew said. The Mayor has been invited to attend any of our directors meetings and on three or four occasions he has drop- ped in unannounced and brought us up to date on things that he felt the Cham- ber might be interested in. Mr. Drew urged the mem- bers of the Chamber to get themselved involved with the directors and let them know what they want done. He told them that any of the directors meetings are open to the members to attend and urged they do so. "Your $25.00 membership fee is a bad investment if the only thing you get all year is your sticker," he said. Community Service Of- ficer Wayne Nethery from the Whitby attachment O.P.P. gave a brief talk about crime in our area and showed two films. Const. Nethery said "'there is crime in Port Perry whether you hear much about it or not". "You have sex offences, thefts, break-ins,"" he said, 'so you are no different here than any other part of the country." Constable Nethery told the chamber that there is one car on 24 hour duty in Port Perry, and in the daytime there are at least three cars in the vicinity of the town. "Port Perry is one of the few towns in Ontario that has this 24 hour protection," he said. "Check with us if you're going away, and we will keep an eye on your homes or businesses. during that period." he said. He also urged residents not to be hesitant about calling the Police for assistance at anytime.. "If you see some- thing that does not look quite right, call us and we will look into it". Mr. Nethery said that he would be approaching many of the merchants in the area in the next couple of months to give them little tips on how to make their premises a little safer from the burglar.
