1 9 ~ [ON ¢ I 54 £2. NAB Se O% - By Jean Bolan I wish to open my column with an apology for not sub- mitting news of any type in recent weeks. My husband has been quite ill since Oct. 1st and I'in turn have been ill also. Thank you all so very much for your phone calls etc. No .. under no circum- stances would I discontinue writing for our Home Town newspaper. Congratulations are once more conveyed to Mr. P. Hvidsten and Staff upon the awards received for excel- lent performance in the field of Journalism. Compiling a weekly newspaper is no men- ial chore. It is indeed a time consuming task and awards such as received recently are not only most definitely earned, but so justly deserv- ed. Congratulations and the best that life has to offer are conveyed to the newly-weds, Mr. and Mr. R. Day (nee Pearl Durand of Caesarea). The couple are spending their honeymoon in Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Fowler are also vacationing in the sunny south. Their many friends trust that their trip shall. be all they expect it to be. Mr. and Mrs. Norm. Ten- nyson recently returned from Fort Lauderdale. They admit they had a simply beautiful holiday but are certainly happy to be back in not so sunny Caesarea. There never shall be aplace that can replace home. A sincere prayer for im- proved health is offered on behalf of may local citizens who are not enjoying the best of health at the moment. The winner for the most weight loss in the T.0.P.S. club for the past three weeks -in Caesarea is believe it or not .. Sandy Day. We are proud of you Sandy .. keep up the good work, The February meeting of Court Lady Snowbird, (Can- adian Foresters) was held in the: Nestleton Community Centre on February the 5th. Many items of interest were on the agenda, a few of which I shall mention here. It was agreed to donate $250.00 for Cancer research and $250.00 to assist with the new wing in the Princess Margaret Can- cer Hospital in Toronto. Plans for the Ladies to attend E.O.P.A. on April 18th and 19th were finalized. This shall be held at the 401 Inn in Peterborough this year. This should allow for a greater attendance as many husb- ands may attend also. A Social Bingo night was planned and has since been held and proved to be im- mensely successful. A spec- ial thank you is extended to Sr. Sandy Day for her excel- lent work in soliciting dona- tions from many of our local merchants for this event. All of the girls worked hard to make the evening a success as they usually do. The members of Court Lady Snowbird are extremely grateful to all of you kind people that donated or assist- ed us in any way with this and our many endeavours to raise funds for research on that dread disease that so mercilessly claims many of our loved ones. Words seem rather inadequate when one discovers that people do care. The report on that February meeting is rather sketchy for another meeting is near. I shall give a detail- ed report on it, The many friends of Johnny Doyle of Nestleton are pleased that he is feeling to all makes of Snowmobiles A &A Small Engine - HWY. 12 NORTH OF GREENBANK PHONE 985-2905 PORT PERRY RENT -ALL are constantly adding to their stock-in an effort to better fill your needs. A pleasant trip to Florida is wished for Mr. and Mrs. Rudy and Kurt Gobkes. The Kurt Gobkes's were given their trip by their family and friends as a Silver Wedding anniversary gift. On.Saturday evening Feb. the 22nd, approximately fifty friends and relatives honour- ed Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kellar with a surprise party in their home in Kedron. The occa- sion.. an anniversary gift to two of the nicest people one may find along life's jour- ney. These kids were mar- ried in leap year, which seems unfair when it comes to celebrating. So it was decided that the party would be a real surprise to Lyn and Eddie and it was indeed. A collection was taken weeks before the event and with the money gathered, a new range, electric knife, a love- ly grill, a set of pots, an electric kettle and a side of beef were purchased for the now speechless couple. When asked to make a speech they responded with a quiet thank you accompanied by a. tear. That I assure you was all the thanks that anyone could possibly ask for. On February the 4th, the Ladies Auxilliary, of the Cae- sarea Community Hall held a social evening that was well worth attending. I enjoyed myself immensely as did approximately thirty others. An evening of your preference, darts, euchre or just simply chatting was a pleasant interlude in the long winter that we at times find rather depressing. My comp- liments 'to the ladies that preparéd such a delectable lunch. Winners of' Club (formerly the "Cards and Kids") were, first: Sandy :Day, second: Maxine McMillén" 'and the 'Booby' went to Mrs. Murdock. The game was hosted by Mrs. Elna Forsythe and the lunch was prepared by Elna and Maxine.. and thoroughly en- joyed. After digging our way clear of six or more inches of - snow that had fallen during the evening, the ladies de- parted for home. The Valentine's Dance sponsored by the Nestleton Community Centre Commit- tee on Saturday evening was a definite success. In spite of the inclement weather, a capacity crowd enjoyed an evening of dancing to the music of the renowned Merrimakers. By all reports the buffet as per usual was delectable. The members of this Committee deserve an enormous amount of credit for the hours of effort and time they give to guarantee the success of their dances. Once more may I say well done to each of them. 1 wish to take this oppor- tunity to say hello to our aged and infirm. May God see fit to. bless them with good health and not allow them to know loneliness. Just a thought ... There are two things of vital impor- tance in life that should never be taken for granted.
