John Gast, Feb. 26, 1975 Let's face it. There is no such thing as "affording a house'! Unless you happen to be one of those disgusting people who won the million, you simply press hard as the papers are slipped beneath your pen and hope for the best. Worrying about money used to be a Numero Uno concern around here, but that was before | discovered a unique accounting system em- ployed by my wife. System of Painless Payment. I first took notice of the system after my wife's initial tax calculations showed we owed a couple of hundred to Pierre Elliott. Reverting to the Painless system, however, she went through only two or three forms before the equasion reversed itself. Pierre owed us. Fantastic, | thought, the way she does that. Although the final calculations were made more along the RCMP-approved system, | knew the Gast System would come in handy in the future. Dissected, the method consists of a number of sub-systems. - Rounding off, for example. Every husband knows that while a $4.00 pipe costs almost $10.00, a $16.00 dress costs. just over $10.00. Harness that mathematical formula and apply it to the household bills, and things could look brighter almost immediately. So, anyhow, back to the house. Since we've already established that no one can actually it boils down to a matter of psychopulence (mind over money). So I turn her loose with a pad and pencil, one of the kids on her knee, wailing, the other getting into things (she does her best Painless Payment Accounting that way). An hour later, you have enough money left over for a complete new wardrobe for her, a vacation in Paris, and a second car. So here we are, Port Perry landowners, and. belt-tightening has "already started. The list reads thus: -- Get a 50 per cent raise -- no shopping for unnecessaries -- no shopping for necessaries -- cut out smoking, drinking, going out -- cut out dinner -- cut out supper -- cut out hanky panky (you need the energy) -- light breakfast, but only if genuinely hungry -- (At present gas prices) do not drive car over three miles per week ) -- (expected hikes) Drive all you want, but buy a syphon -- Shut down oil furnace and use 25 watt bulb to double as heater and light. Obviously, we could manage quite nicely. You must be prepared for those hidden and unexpected costs as well. One guy | know needed a survey before he could buy the house. Some guy plumb-bobbed his way around the yard, and before collapsing his tripod for the final time, it cost him over $100.00. A report from the Surayer revealed basically that, yes, the house was indeed there. with John Gast hi I've dubbed it the Gast PLUMBING - HEATING . WERE J LFA. Pogue's story for the children on Sun. was based on all forms of 'practice', and involved a very approp- riate illustration of children singing in the church and its provoking effect upon a non Christian sales- man. The conclusion was that the children are practis- ing for adulthood and in attending church all are practising to prepare our- selves for a deeper under- standing of God. The sermon was taken from "Revelation", quite a difficult book to understand. The conclusion was that the church must always move or it will become stagnant and die.
