Lakefield closed the gap on a goal by Wade Smith but Badminton and well in Port Perry Badminton Club played host on Sunday, March 16th, to their first Open Competition Tourn- ament. Over 60 players from Oshawa, Uxbridge, Port Perry and area competed in _a well-organized, evenly matched day of games at the Port Perry High School. The Port Club placed first in Mixed Doubles with Grant Kerry and Sonjo Enge; first in Ladies Doubles - Susan Bond and Mary Skinner: first in Ladies Singles - -@ak Ridges opposition in semi-finals Wheels came back again as Malcolm scored from the point, Jones and Gord Scott assisting. Lakefield scored their fourth goal while the Wheels were two men short and the Wheels did well to hang on to the win. On Monday, Mar. 17, the Wheels meet Oak Ridges in Port Perry and again on Wed. March 19, in the open- ing games of a best of seven semi-final in the All-Ontario midget play-offs. Hard work and fewer penalties will keep the wheels on the trail of the championship and they have proved in past efforts that they are capable of doing both.
