Having played only 2 or 3 games in the . past month the team came on strongly winning 2 of their 3 games, losing the third game to Fenelon Falls. Game 1: BOBCATS 5 NEWCASTLE 0 .. Newcastle was thought to be one of the better teams at the tournament but this was soon proved wrong. Port came out skating hard and at 6:22 of the first period, Kevin Martens put them on the scoreboard on a goal from Mike McQuade. Port was held scorel®ss until 14:28 ot the second period when Bill Bridge set Kevin Williams up for'a goal. Then at 4:55 of the third period, Kenton Baird scored from Tim Ash- bridge and Kevin Williams. Port then banged two quick goals in as Stuart Cochrane scored at 12:19 from Mike .McQuade and Bill Bridge scored at "13:54 from Bill Haynes to end the scoring. Game 2: BOBCATS 8 LINDSAY 6 ..Lindsay came out thinking they had a sure win, having beaten the Bobcats 8;3 on Tuesday, March 11. In this game, the Bobcats started ports Midget "B's" eliminated from tournament in final game out slowly and at the :57 second mark of the first period Lindsay scored. Port did not get on the scoreboard until 9:45 of the second period when Richard Goris' picked up an unassisted goal. At. 12:31, Port picked up a powerplay goal by Bill Bridge from Rob VanCamp and Mike McQuade. This time Lindsay came back and at 14:25 tied the game up. Again Port broke the tie in the third period at 5:50 on a goal by Tim Ashbridge from Rob VanCamp. It was then Lindsay's turn to tie it up on a powerplay goal at 9:05. Port came back to take the lead at 9:58 on a goal by Stuart Cochrane from Rob VanCamp. Again at 11:20, Lindsay got a powerplay goal to tie the game at 44, and end the 3rd period. To bread the tie, each team picked three players to shoot from centre ice on the open net. Kenton Baird, the cap- tain for the Bobcats, was the first to shoot missing the net by only a few feet. Lindsay was next to shoot and Tim Pearson counted the first goal of the shoot-off. Colin Wackett shot next for Port and tied it up at 1-1. Lindsay's next shot was not as accurate as their first and missed the net by a couple yards, Stuart Cochrane shot next for Port and made the score 2-1. Dave Webster shot next for Lindsay and tied the score up 2-2. The two teams now had to pick three more players to shoot and try to break the tie. bridge started off for Port and put the puck in the net to make it 1-0. Lindsays shot was again off target and took some of the pressure off of Port. Mike McQuade took Ports second shot and put them ahead 2-0. Lindsay needed to score on their second shot to stay in the game but could not manage to hit the net. FENELON FALLS 6 BOBCATS 1 Port came into this game with high spirits and started eo out skating very fast against Fenelon Falls. At 2:14 of the first period, Bill Bridge started the Bobcats off on a goal assisted by Colin Wackett and Rob VanCamp. This was all the scoring done in the first period as Port skated and played very well against Fenelon Falls. In the second period Fenelon Falls came on strong and scored two fast goals at 4:33 and 6:22 and then picked up a third goal at 13:34 to end the second period at 3-1. Fenelon again started out strong and scored two fast goals at the :07 second mark and at 3:06 to make it 5-1. Port gave it all they had but could not beat the excellent fF 2 goalkeeping of Dave Jamie- son. Fenelon's final goal came at 13:27 of the third period and ended the game at 6-1. Doug Culbert played very well in net for Port but the shooting of Fenelon Falls kept him busy. The Bobcats expect to start their playoffs this Thursday night against either Uxbridge or Stouff- ville so come on out and support them as it will be an exciting series. House League * _ CLUB ANNRENE 6 WAGG BROS. TEXACO 5 Ken Bryant and Robt. Kroonenberg both scored hat tricks for Annrene. Robt. Kroonenberg also assisted twice and Ken Bryant once. Larry Page got three assists = and Jeff Lyon two while Steve Hawes, Bill Newman and Bill Hurst each got his first hat trick of the year in a losing effort. Other Wagg goals went to Bill Bridge and Gord Hintze. The only assist went to Eric Hadfield. ; Gi GRIEVES GULF 7 CLUB ANNRENE 4 Paul Beare was hot this game for Gulf as he fired home 4 goals, three of them on passes from Brian Leslie, Keith 'Barr, Ron Goris and Bill Haynes finished off Gulf's scoring. Rick Goris assisted on two goals while Steve Middleton and Tim » Ashbridge each got an assist. Jeff Lyon got a pair of goals for Annrene. Larry Page and Colin Asselstine added the other markers. Ken Bryant picked up three assists. Charlie Olliffe, Steve Hawes and Robert Kroonenberg all assisted once. 2 R GRIEVES GULF 6 CARL THE BUTCHER 3 Stu Cochrane, Al Waldin- sperger and Gerry Percy all scored for Carls. Assists went to John Kane, Mike McQuade and Jim Percy with two.
