Luncheon was served by Sis. Elna Forsyth and Sis. Shirley Jackson and was as per usual delectable. Often as tread the pathway of life we are shocked and saddened by the passing of a loved one. Thus is the case in the passing of a very dear friend and neighbour, Mrs. Eleanor Fowler-Frayer of Caesarea. This dresden like lady, though suffering for many years, held nothing but love and compassion in her heart for all that met her. Our deepest sympathy and ferverent prayers are con- veyed to Eleanors family in this, their hour of suffering. On Tuesday of last week, Mrs. Grahame Fish, Presi- dent of the United Church Women chaired the March meeting. Following the "Theme Hymn", Mrs. Fish' extended a welcome to the ladies after which she read a most appropriate poem en- titled, "Easter Joy". In charge of the Devotional, Mrs. Fish 'chose for her message theme, "The Great- est Event in History". Mrs. Haines read a passage from the Bible. Miss Gail Malcolm sang in beaut- eous voice, the lovely hymn, The Old Rugged Cross. The Sec. Mrs. W. Vine read the minutes of the previous meeting. Correspondance and Finances were read by the Treasurer, Mrs. Bruce Heaslip. The ladies were reminded of the thirteenth Annual Presbyterial to be held in Whiby in St. Mark's church on April 2nd. Plans to attend the noon luncheon in Black- stock on March 25th were finalized. A discussion re- garding the 50th anniversary of church union and the 75th anniversary of the Nestleton United Church followed. A complete and informa- tive resume of the history of the Nestleton United Church was submitted by Mrs. Law- rence. This is indeed history. The present United Church was in the year 1855, a wooden structure erected on a plot of land deeded for this specific purpose by Mr. Robert Jackson. (416) 986-4201 it was named Salem and the church was called the Wesle- yan Methodist. In the year 1900, the old structure was demolished and replaced by the present brick one. The entire cost for this undertak- ing was 1,810. There were five churches in the pastorial Charge at that time. The Minister was kept busy and his salary was $1,481 an- nually, with an additional $50.00 for the upkeep of his horse. Money was obtained through private donations, hot suppers, etc. Dedication to one's church was immin- ent in those days as one man held the position of Choir Leader for seventy years and another was Sunday School Superintendant for 28 years. This year it shall be the 75th anniversary of the United Church. In 1950 the old church shed was sold. In 1962 the Hammond organ was purchased. The little church in Caesarea closed in 1971 as was -the church in Cadmus in 1972. In 1973 the new heating system was in- stalled. In 1962 the Women's Association was re-named the United Church Women. In 1974 washroom facilities were completed. Yes, that is indeed history. Following this most inter- esting resume by Mrs. Malcolm, the Mizpath Bene- diction was repeated. Lunch- eon was served by Mrs. Till, Mrs. Edgerton. Mrs. Norm. Mairs expressed apprecia- tion.
