On Thursday evening, Keith and Faye Ashton entertained their neighbours Mr. and Mrs. S. Lawley and Mr. and Mrs. R. Brown, a going-away party for the Lawley's. On Friday, Mrs. Lawley took her 'twins, Mark and Tony, also Chris and Stacey 'Brown, Julie and Richard Ashton to a movie in Ux- bridge. They returned to the Ashton home where Mrs. Lawley, Mrs. Ashton and Mrs. Brown had a 'going- away' party for Mark and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Sanderson entertained friends from Collingwood on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Baster and girls had Sunday supper with Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Jones on Sunday. On Monday, Paul took another flying trip to Prince Edward Island. 1 can just hear his daughter, "What, not again, Daddy!!" - Mr. and Mrs. Donald Asling visited daughter, Dr. Pat Asling and son, Ivan, last Tuesday evening. On Saturday, Mr. and Mrs. Asling drove up to Hanover to visit their son, Dr. Jerrold Asling, Mrs. Asling and girls. Firetruck to undergo repairs Scugog Township seems to have a bad run of luck with its fire trucks. The firm that's building the tank for the Caesarea truck that was destroyed in an accident earlier this year, will be engaged to weld together the bottom seam in the tank of the Port Perry department's 1,200 gallon tanker. 4-H Club The Manchester Tasty Treaters held their fourth meeting on Monday, March 10th at Margaret Wannin- khof's. The meeting opened with the 4-H pledge followed by the roll call and the minutes of the last meeting, read by Bev Rudkin. We discussed the New World discovery - by Europeans, and Canada becoming a Nation: in 1867. Many recipes came from our ancestors. We later tried Dutch Chocolate made by Belinda and Leanne, Ger- man Tea squares by Mar- garet, and Hot Potato salad by Judy and Patricia, a recipe from Loyalist who emigrated to Upper Canada from Penn- sylvania. All were delicious. Meeting No. 5 was held at Margaret Wanninkhof's on Monday, March 24th. The meeting opened with the 4-H Pledge, followed by the roll call and minutes of the last meeting. We discussed foods from Poland, Italy and Eastern Europe, and later Margaret demonstrated pizza which all members enjoyed. Meeting No. 6 was held at Mrs. Kingstone's on Mon., April 7th. We read about the Nor- thern European. countries and a discussion on different breads and cheeses followed. Mrs. Kingstone demgn- strated cabbage rolls and rhubard soup which was later enjoyed along cucumber and yogart which was prepared by Margaret earlier. Press Reporter Patricia Bolton Forest Week will feature "A walk in the forest" An opportunity to learn firsthand about the unique hardwood forests and plant- ation areas of Central Ontario will be offered in several locations next week as Canadians observe National Forest Week, May 4-11. Forest Week in Ontario will feature "A walk in the Forest" on Mother's day, Sunday, May 11, jointly spon- sored throughout the province by the Ontario For- estry Association, the Ministry of Natural Resour- ces, and the Conservation Authorities of Ontario. Theme of National Forest Week, which is under the auspices of the Canadian Forestry Association, is "Trees, the Green Link". A variety of activities and out- door experiences will high- light the relationship bet- ween man and the tree and will emphasize the many faces of forestry. The Maple District of the Ministry of Natural Resour- cés will provide two con- ducted forest walks in the Uxbridge Forest, three miles south of Uxbridge on the Seventh Concession, and in the Vivian Forest, on the east side of Highway 48, two miles north of the Ballantrae stoplight. Both begin at 2:30 the German - with - Deputy Chief Charles Lown told council Monday night that the bottom seam of the tank is splitting, and that a "Major expense' will result when the tank has to be lifted out of the truck, and welded.
