v Lumbermen prepare Ballard Lumbermen Inter- mediate *C" Softball Club held their first outdoor prac- tice of the young season last Thursday evening at the waterfront ball park. The softball team has been work- ing out once a week in the school gymnasium for the last month, waiting for the weather to improve. This year's team will be oadenp of some of last years Intermediate team plus the * addition of many of last years VanCamp Construction Juniors who went to the 0.A.S.A. semi-finals in 1974. There will be no Junior team this season in Port Perry due to over age, school and work committments by last years players. Wayne Venning and Mac McMillan will be coaching the squade while Walt Sandi- son will be the manager. The coaching staff will be reunit- ed with many of the players who played on the "68" PASSPORT PHOTO Contact Peter Hvidsten 985.7383 PORT PERRY STAR . for 1975 ball season All-Ontario Juvenile Champ- ionship team, with players like Rick Beare, Tom Law- rence, Bill Wannamaker and Bob Smith all attending workouts and hopeful of mak- ing the team. The team should be strong in pitching with Ken Goreski and Laurie Williams giving them. a strong combination. The Ballard Lumber team will be entered in the Oshawa City and District Softball League with the Whitby Intermediate '"'A" team, Charterways Junior '"'A"' club and five other industrial teams from Oshawa. Port Perry will play its home games on Thursday evenings at the Lakefront and the schedule will begin May 21. This young "75" edition of the Ballard Lumbermen should give the local fans some exciting softball enter- tainment this summer and should be the best club for- med in town since the late 50's and early 60's when the Port Perry Merchants were the top club in the area. Anyone wishing to try out for the club can do so, as practices are Tuesdays and Thursday evenings, and Sun- day mornings and all pos- itions are open to the best player available. F.
