The objective is to encour- age community newspaper readers to think about what their newspapers mean to them, their families, their lives and the community. There were 27 ladies in attendance. The meeting was opened by all reciting the Auxiliary Prayer, followed by the reading of a poem, by Norma Crowell, entitled '"The Bored Housewives." 'Mary Cannon gave "the Tuck Shop Treasurer's re- port, stating a balance of $1,052.49, in the bank. This writing contest, under the title Paper" is open to all Star readers, (excluding staff and regular contributors) should be a frank description" or "opinion of just what a community newspaper means to you, the reader. Submissions should not be less than 250 words and not more than 700 in length. The Star will give a $50 cash' award to the winner for what we consider the best submis- sion, and will be entered in the National contest which carries an award of $400. and a gold medal. Irene Lerch advises that the plans for the Auxiliary Spring Fair, on May 24th at the Port Perry Presbyterian Church, are finalizing nicely. Mr. David Brown, Hospital Administrator, thanked the ladies of the Auxiliary, for the lovely tea they served at the Annual Hospital Board Meeting. He also stated that the results of the Accredita- tion Inspections should be known, by the latter part of May or the first part of June. Mrs. Jennifer White, Dir- ector of Nursing, thanked the ladies for their generous don- antion of toys to the Child- ren's Ward. Eleven members of the Auxiliary travelled to Camp- bellford, on April 23rd, for the Annual Spring Confer- ar~e of the District No. 7 hospital Auxiliaries. A very interesting and informative day was had by all who attended. Due to the holiday week- end in May, the next meeting of the Auxiliary will be held one week earlier, May 12th at the Hospital.
